Why is a domain invalid?
While scanning import files for undesirable contacts, we also conduct a MX record check on each domain found within the uploaded segment – if we establish that the domain is undeliverable, none of the contacts on that domain will end up on your list.
Your import statistics panel contains a detailed report of domains that have not passed our check. You can verify the statistics of an affected import by clicking on its status.
Why does this happen
A domain must at all times be specifically set up to send and/or receive mail – this is done by the domain’s owner, usually during the first steps of setting up the domain. In some cases, the MX record can be removed due to various internal issues or decisions, or the domain’s ownership can expire, in both cases making it impossible to deliver any messages to it. Such addresses will generate bounces, which negatively influence your sender reputation.
What can be done
The presence of a large volume of inactive domains within a file can indicate that the list is outdated. For general pointers pertaining to list hygiene, please familiarise yourself with list hygiene practices described here: How to maintain list hygiene?
If you are sure that the list is up-to-date, and the e-mails within it expressed their mailing permission recently, we suggest that you contact the owner of the mailing domain. It is possible that due to some unintended changes or temporary outages, the domain is misconfigured, and if the appropriate settings are restored, the domain will be able to receive e-mails again.
