9 best WooCommerce email marketing tools

Updated:

WooCommerce provides built-in email marketing functionality that helps you send transactional emails. Transactional emails are the emails you send in response to a customer’s actions on your website. These include order confirmation emails as well as shipping and delivery alerts.

Transactional emails are extremely important in boosting customer satisfaction after a sale. However, they only help you interact with existing customers. They don’t work to attract new customers. For that purpose, you need a tool that actually supports email marketing, not just transactional emails.

In this article, I will share nine WooCommerce email marketing tools that will help you level up your marketing campaigns. You’ll learn how each of these tools is different and how much you can expect to spend.

The problem with WooCommerce’s built-in email marketing tool

WooCommerce is an excellent tool that helps you add ecommerce functionality to your WordPress site. However, the platform does very little to support your ecommerce email marketing campaigns.

The biggest drawback, as I’ve highlighted above, is that the built-in WooCommerce email marketing tool only supports transactional emails. Transactional emails are extremely important for the success of your ecommerce business, but they’re not enough if you want to grow your store.

The best email marketing platforms help you capture email addresses, set up automated email workflows, design engaging email campaigns quickly with an easy-to-use drag-and-drop editor, and A/B test your campaigns to optimize your ROI.

You won’t be able to do any of that with WooCommerce’s built-in email solution.

But that’s not the only issue with the WooCommerce email marketing capabilities. The platform allows you to customize your email campaigns using the EmailKit WooCommerce email customizer. The customizer has a nice drag-and-drop functionality. However, you only get six templates, and you don’t get as many customization options as you do with third-party WooCommerce email marketing plugins.

Only one of the six templates is free. The others are marked as Pro, meaning WooCommerce users must pay an annual subscription to access them. The paid plans are cheap as you can expect (starting at just $35/year), but given the limitations of the customizer, you’re better off looking for a dedicated email marketing tool.

The good news? WooCommerce supports integrations with many standalone email marketing tools. You can integrate anything from cheap email marketing tools with fairly basic features to advanced solutions that are slightly more expensive.

The question is, which third-party WooCommerce email marketing tool is right for your online store?

Let’s now do an in-depth review of the best email marketing tools for WooCommerce.

1. GetResponse

GetResponse is a marketing solution that provides email marketing and automation tools for ecommerce businesses. The platform has a WooCommerce plugin you can use to connect your WooCommerce store with GetResponse. This connection allows you to use all of GetResponse’s marketing tools to grow your WooCommerce store.

The GetResponse + WooCommerce integration pulls customer contacts from your WooCommerce store to GetResponse. This allows you to send your email campaigns more effectively using GetResponse’s intuitive tools, like the visual email editor and extensive email templates library.

You can also sync products and ecommerce data from your store to GetResponse. This gives GetResponse access to key data like your product catalog and customers’ purchase behavior and browsing activity. That unlocks new opportunities like sending tailored upsell and cross-sell campaigns.

The integration helps you target customers based on their purchase and browsing behavior. You can send hyper-personalized product recommendations campaigns, for example. You can also retarget browse and cart abandoners.

Being an automation platform, GetResponse will help you automate critical email campaigns through automation workflows. You can automate welcome emails, win-back campaigns, abandoned cart recoveries, replenishment reminders, and birthday and anniversary campaigns.

We provide prebuilt ecommerce workflow templates for these campaigns so you can build and deploy them in minutes.

You’re also free to build a custom workflow from scratch. Our visual automation builder makes it super easy for anyone to create a custom workflow from scratch.

In essence, the GetResponse + WooCommerce integration helps you recover lost sales, increase average order value, and optimize customer lifetime value.

And it’s not just about email marketing. GetResponse provides additional tools to help you engage both potential and existing customers across multiple channels.

For example, our web automation feature will help you engage potential customers who reach your site, but do not place an order or submit their email addresses through pop-ups. You can set up an automation workflow to target these users with tailored sales offers based on the specific pages they visited.

The web automation tool can also detect repeat visitors and first-time visitors. Use our automation split feature to split these visitors and target them with different, more effective pop-up communications.

Key features

  • Bot detector tool detects and filters email engagement caused by bots to give you accurate performance analytics.
  • Tracks customer behavior and buying history to help you send more personalized email campaigns
  • Offers a transactional email service
  • Provides detailed analytics to track email performance
  • Provides lead-capture forms to collect email addresses
  • Supports email A/B testing to optimize your email marketing strategy
  • Supports ecommerce marketing across other channels, including SMS, web push notifications, and paid ads.

Pricing

The GetResponse WooCommerce plugin is free to install. GetResponse provides a free plan that supports email campaigns to up to 500 contacts.

That said, I would recommend at least the Marketer plan if you want to run WooCommerce email marketing campaigns that generate meaningful revenue for your store. The plan starts at $48.38/mo. It supports unlimited email automation, abandoned cart recovery, web push notifications, advanced segmentation, and promo code campaigns.

For ecommerce stores that want enterprise-level capabilities, GetResponse Max gives you the best features to engage your customers and drive growth at scale. This plan supports advanced email and marketing automation. It lets you send up to 5 million emails per hour with a 99% email deliverability.

It also offers AI product recommendations and multi-channel marketing automation.

Book a demo to see why global companies like Poko Lorente and Eveline Cosmetics use GetResponse Max to generate as much as $49,000 in a month from a single Max campaign.

2. Klaviyo

Klaviyo has a popular plugin that WooCommerce merchants use to run advanced email campaigns. The platform helps you run multi-channel campaigns across email, SMS, and mobile push notifications. This allows you to reach your customers where they are and build long-term relationships that drive repeat purchases and customer loyalty.

Like GetResponse, Klaviyo also supports ecommerce marketing automation. The platform has over 50 pre-built automation workflows for campaigns such as abandoned cart recovery and welcome email campaigns.

Klaviyo automation workflow library showcasing over 50 prebuilt templates for eCommerce email marketing campaigns

Klaviyo also pulls customer data from your ecommerce store. This data is accessible from your Klaviyo dashboard, and it helps you run more effective email campaigns. You can use it to create better customer segments based on purchase history, AOV, revenue generated, or engagement levels.

The same data can help you predict future purchases, detect at-risk customers, and unlock upsell and cross-sell opportunities.

Klaviyo AI is one of the unique features you can expect from this platform. The conversational AI feature helps you build complex customer segments in moments. It also allows you to create automation workflows and personalized campaigns through simple prompts.

Key features

  • Provides a customer data platform (CDP) to centralize customer data
  • Supports predictive analytics and personalized product recommendations
  • Automates review requests and responses
  • Supports mobile app and WhatsApp marketing

Pricing

Klaviyo can get expensive fast because pricing is based on both the number of emails you send per month and the number of contacts on your email list. That’s one of the reasons most people end up seeking other Klaviyo alternatives. For example, GetResponse only charges you based on the size of your email list; all plans get unlimited monthly email sends.

Features like SMS marketing, the CDP, marketing analytics, and reviews are also sold as separate add-ons.

The email plan starts at $40 per month. This supports up to 15,000 monthly emails and 1,500 active profiles. If you want both email and SMS marketing, you’ll need to pay $60/mo.

The Reviews feature costs $50/mo, marketing analytics goes for $100/mo, and the advanced Klaviyo data platform costs $500/mo.

3. Omnisend

Omnisend offers a WooCommerce plugin to help you run better email and SMS campaigns for your WooCommerce ecommerce store. You’ll have access to pop-up and sign-up forms you can use to capture email addresses and phone numbers, for example.

Building these lead generation assets is also pretty straightforward thanks to the drag-and-drop builder. The same builder is used to simplify the email design process.

Besides building your emails from scratch, Omnisend provides pre-built templates for various ecommerce email marketing campaigns like birthday emails, Black Friday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas.

They also provide pre-built templates for pop-up forms, embed forms, and landing pages.

Omnisend’s automation feature offers pre-built workflows for your transactional emails. You can also use the automation builder to create custom workflows for triggered email campaigns.

Key features

  • Personalized product recommendation tool
  • Supports automation splits to branch customer journeys
  • Pre-built customer segments using crucial customer behavior
  • Supports dynamic content blocks within emails for personalized campaigns
  • Provides an AI assistant to help with writing subject lines and email body

Pricing

One notable thing with Omnisend is that most of the features are available across all plans. This is unlike most email marketing tools that tend to offer vastly different features for the different plans.

That said, one crucial feature that is only available on Omnisend’s high-tier Pro plan is the product recommender.

Plans start at $11.20 for 500 contacts and 6,000 monthly email sends. This plan supports unlimited web push notifications, automation splits, pop-ups, sign-up forms, and landing pages.

The Pro plan goes for $41.30 per month for up to 2,500 contacts and unlimited monthly email sends. You’ll also get global SMS messaging, the vital product recommender, sales & performance reports, and advanced reporting.

4. MailerLite

MailerLite provides a good selection of features to help ecommerce business owners generate more sales. The platform comes with countdown timers that can help you use FOMO to drive more revenue, for example. It can also pull product images, prices, and descriptions from your ecommerce store and display them in product boxes.

MailerLite supports email automation, too. It lets you use custom triggers based on your WooCommerce customers’ behavior, such as completing a purchase, abandoning a cart, and joining your newsletter, to run timely email campaigns.

Use these triggers to run post-purchase email campaigns that nurture brand loyalty, recover lost sales, and boost AOV through upsells and cross-sells.

MailerLite offers several AI features to support your email marketing workflows. There’s an AI text generation tool that helps with writing emails and subject lines. The platform also provides an AI smart sending feature that can track subscribers’ engagement with your emails to identify the best time to send campaigns.

Key features

  • Supports transactional email campaigns
  • Offers an email verification tool to maintain a clean email list
  • Supports A/B testing of pop-up forms to increase lead generation
  • Provides the smart sending feature to optimize engagement rates

Pricing

MailerLite offers one of the more compelling free plans. That plan accommodates up to 1,000 contacts compared to GetResponse’s 500, Omnisend’s 500, and Klaviyo’s 250 active profiles. Monthly email sends on MailerLite are also quite high at 12,000.

Though the free plan offers just one user seat, you’ll get the email automation builder, drag and drop editor, comparative reporting, and signup forms and pop-ups.

Paid plans start at $13.50/mo, which is pretty cheap, but it only supports up to 1,000 subscribers. The key difference between this and the free plan is that you get unlimited monthly email sends, three user seats, dynamic emails, multivariate testing, and campaign auto-resend.

The advanced plan costs $27 per month. It comes with unlimited seats, a custom HTML editor, enhanced automations, an AI writing assistant, smart sending, and email automation templates.

The platform also offers an enterprise plan that provides a dedicated IP address, onboarding consultation and training, a dedicated success manager, account audits, and 24/7 email and live chat support. The plan is available at a custom price.

Like the other email marketing tools I’ve covered above, MailerLite also supports transactional emails. The service is sold separately.

5. Brevo

Brevo integrates with WooCommerce and syncs your customer data immediately. Your Brevo contact list will also be updated automatically every time you get new customers or subscribers.

Not only that, but the integration pulls product data from your WooCommerce store to the Brevo platform. That allows you to maintain an updated contact list and run personalized campaigns based on the customers’ behavior in your store.

The platform lets you segment customers based on their purchase behavior and LTV, for example. This could help you identify your high-value customers or VIPs and target them with unique content that appreciates their business and boosts retention.

Brevo’s automation tool helps you personalize the customer journey and scale your ecommerce marketing efforts. Use this tool to create automations for different marketing channels, including email and SMS.

The platform offers a good selection of pre-made workflow templates to help you set up the automation campaigns faster.

Brevo automation workflow templates displaying prebuilt campaigns for welcome series and customer retention strategies

You can also use the drag-and-drop editor to create your own workflows with custom triggers and conditions.

Brevo also offers powerful analytics, showing campaign performance. You’ll have access to data like revenue per campaign, email deliverability, open rates, click-through rate, and conversion rates.

Key features

  • Offers a customer data platform to house all your customer data in one place (available as an add-on)
  • WhatsApp marketing is available as an add-on
  • Offers customizable email and workflow templates

Pricing

Brevo offers a free plan with a daily send limit of 300 emails. This plan also supports dynamic content and marketing automation for up to 2,000 contacts.

Paid plans start at $8.08 per month with the Starter plan. One notable drawback with this paid plan is that your emails will contain the Brevo branding. You must pay an extra $10.80 per month to remove the branding—at that point, it makes more sense to just upgrade to the Business plan, which starts at $16.17/mo.

Marketing automations are also capped at 2,000 contacts on the Starter plan.

You must spend at least $16.17/month on the Business plan to remove the Brevo branding and unlock extra features like heat-map reporting, A/B testing, predictive sending, and unlimited marketing automation. Even then, a vital feature like multi-user access is sold as an add-on.

6. Mailchimp

Mailchimp is one of the oldest email marketing tools on the market. The tool supports WooCommerce integration through a plugin. The integration pulls your ecommerce data into Mailchimp, allowing you to track customer behavior and run personalized email campaigns.

Mailchimp provides advanced marketing automation tools to automate your multi-channel marketing campaigns. You can use these tools to automate your marketing efforts across email, SMS, and social media channels.

It also offers a good selection of workflow templates to get your automated campaigns up and running in no time.

The platform can track the products that customers browse and search for. It can also look at customers’ purchase history. This data can be used to deliver tailored product recommendations for higher conversion rates.

Mailchimp also provides a contact profile feature that keeps track of every customer in your store. These profiles can tell you a customer’s purchase activity and their engagement with your communications. You can also add tags and notes to track key interactions with these customers.

Mailchimp’s contact profile can make it easier for you to understand individual customers’ interactions with your brand. They can also help you identify the most vital campaigns that resonate with customers.

Key features

  • Supports predictive segmentation to engage customers more effectively
  • Provides multivariate A/B testing tools
  • Supports behavioral targeting
  • Offers signup forms and pop-up builders

Pricing

Mailchimp has a free forever plan, but it limits you to just 500 contacts. That plan doesn’t support any marketing automation flows, which are really important for effective WooCommerce email marketing.

Paid plans start at $13/mo with the Essentials plan. That plan accommodates 500 contacts and only four automation flows. That means you need to spend at least $20/mo on the Standard plan to get compelling automation capabilities (up to 200 flows). The plan supports five seats, dynamic content, advanced segmentation, and behavioral targeting.

Price for the Standard plan jumps to $45/mo for a contact list of up to 1,500. And once your contact list hits 10,000, you’ll need to upgrade to the Premium plan, which costs $350/mo.

The above plans do not include SMS marketing. Email + SMS has separate paid plans starting at $40/mo for the Standard plan. That’s for 500 contacts, and it gets you 1,000 SMS credits.

7. ActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is another marketing platform that supports email marketing for WooCommerce. The ActiveCampaign plugin will send your WooCommerce store data to the platform, where you can use it to nurture customer relationships, drive sales, and optimize your customer lifetime value.

The integration helps you send critical ecommerce email campaigns to re-engage lapsed customers through win-back campaigns, recover lost sales through abandoned carts, and request customer feedback with automated feedback request emails.

ActiveCampaign prebuilt automation templates for WooCommerce featuring win-back campaigns and feedback workflows

ActiveCampaign provides a suite of AI tools they’ve cleverly named Active Intelligence. The tools have different use cases. For example, you can describe to the Active Intelligence agent what you want to achieve in a campaign, and it’ll orchestrate that campaign for you.

ActiveCampaign Active Intelligence AI interface showing conversational AI agent for automated campaign creation

The AI agents are also supposed to learn from your customer and store data to help you create better campaigns.

Besides the AI campaign builder, you also get:

  • AI brand kit that helps you create branded emails
  • AI actions that help you with activities like summarizing and analyzing customer sentiment
  • AI-suggested segments to help with customer segmentation
  • AI translation that helps you translate your email campaigns into different languages
  • AI SMS builder to support your SMS marketing efforts

Other AI agents or tools include an AI image generator, an AI content generator, an AI campaign calendar builder, an AI suggested automation, and an AI suggested goals.

Key features

  • Pulls historical data such as contacts who have bought from your WooCommerce store, contacts that opted into marketing campaigns, and past orders
  • Supports transactional emails, WhatsApp messaging, and SMS campaigns
  • Provides a built-in customer relationship management tool

Pricing

ActiveCampaign’s cheapest plan, Starter, goes for $15/mo. The plan supports automations with up to 5 actions per automation. However, this plan does not let you sync your product catalog, so you can’t target users with dynamic product content.

The Plus plan costs $49/mo. It syncs the product catalog and blocks. It also offers additional features like AI content generation, AI image generation, and email A/B testing.

The Pro plan costs $79/mo, and it lets you A/B test both emails and automations. You can also view automation maps. It offers predictive sending and BotSense, which detects and filters email opens and clicks generated by bots.

An enterprise plan is available at $145/mo for WooCommerce store owners who want enterprise-grade features and security

8. Drip

Drip connects with WooCommerce to help you run personalized marketing campaigns that target users based on the products they browse and items they’ve bought previously.

The platform lets you segment customers based on their activities on your site and history. It also provides various pre-built workflows to help you set up automated email campaigns faster.

You can automate product recommendations to promote your best-selling items to first-time buyers, for example. You can also send automated replenishment reminders to encourage repeat purchases.

Drip automation workflow builder displaying personalized product recommendation campaigns for eCommerce stores

It also allows you to segment your most loyal customers and target them with special VIP offers. These campaigns can encourage customer loyalty and reduce churn.

That said, I found the interface of Drip’s workflow editor a bit more old-fashioned and clunky compared to most of the other editors I tested.

Key features

  • Offers a visual email creator with lots of ecommerce email templates to pick from
  • Supports retargeting campaigns on social channels like Facebook and Instagram
  • Supports dynamic product blocks to send targeted campaigns

Pricing

Drip pricing is pretty straightforward with just one paid plan. The plan costs $39/mo for 2,500 email list contacts. Price increases as the number of people on your email list increases.

9. AWeber

AWeber’s integration with WooCommerce helps you build your email list, promote products to potential customers, and nurture relationships with existing customers to scale your ecommerce store.

The email marketing platform supports customer segmentation and dynamic content. Dynamic content blocks allow you to showcase different products in your emails to different recipients. For example, you can change the product a particular customer sees based on their browsing behavior or purchase history.

AWeber also provides cart abandonment tags that you can use to tag customers who abandon their carts. These users can then be targeted with personalized cart abandonment email campaigns.

Key features

  • Provides AI tools like an AI subject line generator, an AI writing assistant, and a newsletter assistant
  • Provides a mobile app you can use to create and deploy email marketing messages while on the go.
  • Supports behavioral automations to boost sales

Pricing

The AWeber Lite plan costs $29.17 per month for a contact list size of between 1,001 and 2,500. This plan supports only one email list, three email automations, and one custom segment. Unfortunately, your emails will still contain AWeber branding with this plan.

The Plus plan will cost you $45.83/mo, and give you access to unlimited email automations, unlimited custom segments, unlimited email lists, and unlimited users. The plan includes 24/7 priority customer support, advanced reporting/analytics, and removes the AWeber branding.

AWeber offers a done-for-you email marketing service. This might be a good option for any ecommerce business owner who is not very familiar with email marketing. You’ll be charged $79 for the setup fee, on top of the $45.83/mo price of the Plus plan.

With that plan, AWeber’s experts will have a one-on-one call with you and create:

  • One branded email
  • One professional landing page
  • One branded thank-you page
  • Weekly newsletter drafts
  • One sign-up form

Choosing an email marketing tool for WooCommerce

I’ve covered the top email marketing platform for WooCommerce above. But do you know which one is right for you?

Naturally, I’d like you to try our solution, GetResponse. We support a deep integration with WooCommerce, which allows marketers to run advanced marketing campaigns, including high-converting AI-powered product recommendations. Our award-winning 24/7 customer support is also always available (in seven different languages) in case you ever run into issues.

But I understand different businesses have different needs, so a single solution can’t serve everyone. In that case, here are the vital features you must consider as you explore the various WooCommerce email tools.

Seamless WooCommerce integration

This is especially important if you’re running a lean business with no developer on your team.

Look for an email marketing tool that integrates with WooCommerce in just a few simple steps. You shouldn’t have to write any lines of code or do any heavily technical stuff to set up this integration.

Luckily, the majority of the tools shortlisted above connect with WooCommerce in just a few clicks. For example, with GetResponse, just go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to the plugins menu. Search for and add the GetResponse plugin to your WordPress site.

Then, log in to your GetResponse account and go to Integrations and API. Go to WordPress. You’ll be prompted to share your WordPress site URL, admin username, and password. Provide these details and click Connect to integrate your store.

Importing your ecommerce data from WooCommerce to GetResponse is also very simple. Learn more about how to integrate WooCommerce with GetResponse here.

Besides GetResponse, both Klaviyo and Omnisend also have a straightforward integration with WooCommerce. In fact, the only platform I noticed with a few extra steps is Drip. You’ll need to generate API keys to integrate your WooCommerce store with Drip. But they provide a tutorial on how to do all that.

Powerful automation features

Effective automation helps you connect with your customers at the perfect time with relevant messages based on their actions.

Look for a platform that supports advanced marketing automation capabilities. At the very least, you should have workflow templates for the critical ecommerce campaigns like welcoming new subscribers, recovering abandoned carts, and running post-purchase email campaigns to boost customer loyalty and LTV.

An easy-to-use workflow builder is also crucial for customizing the templates or building workflows from scratch.

Beyond that, you may want to look into more advanced automation capabilities such as conditional branching, split logic, dynamic content insertion, and support for webhooks and API actions.

Being able to A/B test your automations is also vital for optimizing your campaigns.

You also want a platform that ensures GDPR compliance in your automation campaigns. For example, you shouldn’t automatically send promotional emails after a purchase if the customer did not consent.

GetResponse supports GDPR compliance by allowing you to add consent field conditions in your workflows, as shown below.

GetResponse automation workflow interface showing GDPR compliance features with consent field conditions for legal email marketing

Beyond email automation, it helps to have a platform that also supports automation across other marketing channels like SMS, push notifications, and WhatsApp.

Intuitive email builder

The best WooCommerce email marketing tool provides an easy-to-use email builder. Ideally, you want a drag-and-drop builder with highly customizable email templates. That speeds up your campaign creation process and helps you design emails that align with your branding style.

You may also want to check the templates available and make sure they support common ecommerce email campaigns. Some AI features, like AI subject line generators and AI email writing, can also be valuable here.

Additional marketing features beyond email

The truth is that email is only one channel used by ecommerce businesses. SMS, social media, push notifications, and paid ads are other vital channels you must use.

But you don’t want to install different WooCommerce plugins for every marketing channel. This bloats your WordPress site and affects its performance. It can also get expensive quickly because you’ll end up paying for several different tools.

Avoid that by picking a platform that supports marketing for all the key channels your business uses. Most tools I’ve discussed support at least email, push notifications, and SMS marketing. A few like MailChimp and Klaviyo also support social media and WhatsApp marketing, respectively.

Pricing

Though some email platforms provide free plans, the truth is you’ll need to pay if you want to unlock the most powerful email marketing features that can move the needle for your store.

Instead of looking for the cheapest platform, go for value for money.

So, look for the features you want and look for a platform that can get you those features at a competitive price. Platforms that charge based on your email list size and number of emails sent per month tend to be more expensive.

Remember to consider your future needs. You don’t want to go through the hassle of migrating to a new platform and starting your learning journey from scratch because you didn’t anticipate certain needs. Pick a scalable solution that can grow with your ecommerce store.

In closing

GetResponse has a 4.3 and 4.2 star rating on G2 and Capterra, respectively. Customers love the platform because it is easy to use, offers exceptional customer support, and our tools just work.

But, of course, GetResponse is only one of several highly-rated WooCommerce email marketing plugins. Other solutions in that category are Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, and Brevo.

Consider your needs and pick a platform that can support your growth strategy. If you want to see how GetResponse can do that, sign up for a free trial today. No credit card needed.
