How do I integrate PayPal with GetResponse and add Buy Now buttons to messages and landing pages?
Integrate GetResponse with PayPal to add Buy Now buttons to your messages and landing pages. When you successfully set up the integration, buttons you create in your PayPal account appear in message and landing page editor toolbars.
Add the buttons to your messages to grow your contact list. Use this integration alongside our PayPal Notification integration to add contacts to a specific list. You also have the option to create multiple buttons to add people to different lists.
You need a PayPal Business or Premier account to use this integration.
How do I integrate GetResponse with PayPal?
Switch between your GetResponse and PayPal accounts to set up the integration. Copy necessary data from your PayPal account and paste it to your GetResponse account to complete the integration.
To start the integration:
- Log in to your GetResponse account.
- Go to Menu >> Integrations and API, search for PayPal Buttons integration, hover over the PayPal Buttons tile, and click Details.
- Click Connect.

Go to your PayPal account to generate API username, API password, and Signature. Don’t log out of your GetResponse account. You’ll need to come back to the integration page to complete the integration.
How to get API credentials?
The steps are different depending on whether you’re requesting API credentials for the first time or returning to view the information you’ve requested before.
Requesting the credentials for the first time:
In a separate tab or window:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- In the top right corner of the main page, click on your name. This action opens a drop-down menu.
- Click on Account Settings.
- Choose Account access.
- Select API access and click Update.
- On the Your payment API credentials page, scroll down to NVP/SOAP API integration (Classic) section and click on Manage API credentials.
- On the Request API Credentials – PayPal page, select Request API signature, and click on the Agree and submit button.
- On the View or remove API signature page, click on Show next to API username, API password, Signature.
Viewing the credentials you’ve requested before:
- Follow the steps 1-5 to get to the Your payment API credentials page.
- Scroll down to NVP/SOAP API integration (Classic) section and click on Manage API credentials.
- On the View or remove API signature page, click on Show next to API username, API password, Signature.
To complete the integration:
- Copy API username, API password, Signature from your PayPal account and paste them into respective fields in your GetResponse account.
Note: When copying and pasting, make sure there are no extra spaces after a given credential. - Click Add PayPal Account to finish the integration.
- Go to your PayPal account and click on the Done button on the View or remove API signature page.
- The integration is now connected.
How to create and configure a Buy Now button in my PayPal account?
To create a Buy Now button:
- Log in to you PayPal account.
- In the top menu toolbar, click on Pay & Get Paid, and choose PayPal Buttons.
- On the Make a PayPal Button page, click on the Buy Now tile or View your saved buttons.
If you click on View your saved buttons, you’ll see that there’s a Sample Buy Now Button. Click on Action >> Modify button. If you decide to create your own button, click Create new button at the bottom in the Action drop-down menu.
To configure a Buy Now button:
You need to complete Step 1 in order to add the button to your GetResponse messages and landing pages. Step 2 and Step 3 are optional.
- In Step 1, if you’re creating a new button, choose Buy Now from the Choose a button type drop-down menu. Then, configure the payment options.
Note: Leave the Customize button boxes unselected. If you make any changes, the button won’t appear in your GetResponse messages. You also won’t see the Email tab when you get to Add your button code to your webpage later on in the button set-up process. - Optional: In Step 2, select Save button at PayPal.
- Optional: In Step 3, customize your checkout pages and edit advanced variables.
You can return to this step and edit the variables any time you’d like to stop certain buttons from adding new contacts to your GetResponse list. Note: After you’ve created your button, PayPal displays HTML embedding code and email code snippets on the Add your button code to your webpage. You can only see the email code if you don’t customize your button in Step 1 and select Save button at PayPal in Step 2.
You can copy the snippets to your website but don’t make any changes to the code. If you change the code, your Buy Now button won’t work properly in GetResponse message and landing page editors.

2. Double-click on the button. The toolbar will pop-up. Click on the chain icon.

Why can’t I see the button in my newsletter and landing page editors?
It may take up to 24 hours for the Buy Now button to populate your GetResponse account. If you can’t see it when editing your newsletters or landing pages, make sure you:
- Have given it enough time to appear in the account.
- Didn’t customize your button in Step 1 of PayPal Button configuration.
- Didn’t edit HTML and email codes when creating the button.
