Keyword density

Keyword density refers to the percentage of times a specific keyword or phrase appears on a webpage compared to the total number of words on that page. It is a metric often used in search engine optimization (SEO) to determine the relevance of a webpage to a particular keyword.

Keyword density is calculated by dividing the number of times a keyword appears by the total number of words on a webpage and multiplying it by 100. For example, if a keyword appears 10 times on a webpage with 500 words, the keyword density would be 2% (10/500 * 100).

In the early days of SEO, keyword density was considered an important factor in ranking higher on search engine result pages (SERPs). Webmasters would often stuff their content with keywords to manipulate search engines into ranking their pages higher. However, search engines have evolved and become more sophisticated, placing less emphasis on keyword density and more focus on overall content quality and relevance.

Today, keyword density is just one of many factors that search engines consider when determining the relevance and quality of a webpage. While it’s still important to include keywords naturally in your content, excessive keyword usage can be seen as spammy and may actually harm your rankings.
