# How to add a new “From” address and name for my messages?

Starting in February 2024, [Gmail](https://blog.google/products/gmail/gmail-security-authentication-spam-protection/) and [Yahoo](https://blog.postmaster.yahooinc.com/post/730172167494483968/more-secure-less-spam) are rolling out new authentication requirements which require using a [custom **DKIM** authenticated domain](https://www.getresponse.com/help/what-is-dkim-and-how-do-i-configure-it.html) with [**DMARC** reinforced](https://www.getresponse.com/help/what-is-dmarc.html).

In April 2025, [Microsoft](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoftdefenderforoffice365blog/strengthening-email-ecosystem-outlook%E2%80%99s-new-requirements-for-high%E2%80%90volume-senders/4399730) joined them with a similar announcement.

GetResponse strongly advises all senders to use email addresses from their own private domains as a [from email address](https://www.getresponse.com/help/how-can-i-add-a-new-from-address-and-name-for-my-messages.html), and to configure both **DKIM** and **DMARC**.

Adding a new from email address
-------------------------------

You can add email addresses in the **Emails and domain** section under **Profile**. If you’d like a specific address to automatically appear in your message from field, select it as the default address.

To add a new from email address:

1. Go to [**Profile >> Emails and domains**](https://app.getresponse.com/email-addresses) and click **Add email**.
2. In a pop-up modal, enter your name and email address. Click **Add**.
3. (Optional) You may also click **Additional settings** to choose what the email address will be used as: from, reply-to, or both. The purpose of your email address can be edited at any time.
4. The email address is added to the list as **Unconfirmed**. We automatically send a confirmation message to the new address. Once you confirm the new address, the status will change to **Confirmed**. You can then start using it as a from address for your messages and confirmation emails.

You can **delete** or **send another confirmation email** for all your unconfirmed addresses. Click on the **Actions** menu (3 dots) on the right of the email address and select **Delete** or **Resend request**.

⚠️ **Note:** Umlauts (e.g. ä, ö, ü) cannot be used in email domains. Instead, you can enter domains in IDN (Punycode) format using the `xn--` prefix. These will be correctly displayed by compatible email clients.

**Example:**

*   `müller-domain.de` → `xn--mller-domain-9db.de`
*   `info@müller-domain.de` → `info@xn--mller-domain-9db.de`

You can use a [Punycode converter](https://www.punycoder.com/) (Unicode → IDN encoder/decoder) to generate the correct format.

From email address statuses
---------------------------

Your email deliverability can be affected by the domain you’re using. We tell you which email address can cause delivery issues, based on whether a given domain has or hasn’t adopted a [DMARC policy](https://www.getresponse.com/help/what-is-dmarc.html).
