|
|
I am trying to setup a custom domain name for my autoresponder on here. I wanted to set it as a subdomain instead of registering a separate domain name specifically for this. My main domain is registered at GoDaddy and the subdomain name I created is "email.MYDOMAIN.com". In my GoDaddy account, there is absolutely nowhere to change DNS for subdomains, so I actually went into my server and added the following 4 lines in my DNS Zones (WHM/cPanel Linux server):
email.MYDOMAIN.com 86400 IN NS a.ns.domadd.getresponse.com
email.MYDOMAIN.com 86400 IN NS b.ns.domadd.getresponse.com
a.ns.domadd.getresponse.com 14400 IN A 207.8.198.52
b.ns.domadd.getresponse.com 14400 IN A 207.8.198.54
GetResponse says to wait up to 3 days but I have waited about 8 days now and it is still not working. I am not sure I did this right. Can anyone explain what I need to do to get this to work?
NOTE: Even if I did register a new domain at GoDaddy for the purpose of autoresponder customization, what is the deal with the nameservers here (a.ns.domadd.getresponse.com)? When you go to edit DNS, there are only 3 boxes...yet there are all these dots in the GetResponse NS. Correct me if I'm wrong...is this how it should go?:
box 1: b.ns
box 2: domadd.getresponse
box 3: com |

Hello,
You must first check with your domain registration host
to see if they allow subdomains, as not all companies do.
To clarify, you do not add, but change the name servers
to the following:
a.ns.domadd.getresponse.com (207.8.198.52)
b.ns.domadd.getresponse.com (207.8.198.54)

Maybe you are not understanding my question...
#1 - My domain name is registered at GoDaddy...do I need to update these nameservers here?
#2 - If I can do this as a subdomain, I own my servers...so I have the ability to add subdomains and add/edit my DNS zones. In my DNS zones is where I added these 4 lines like I mentioned above. Do you have any DNS experts there that can tell me what exactly I need to put in my DNS zones to get this subdomain to point to your nameservers?
#3 - Like I mentioned before, there are only 3 boxes to edit nameservers...you have 5 segments for this nameserver...so what do I put in each of the 3 boxes??? |

Hello,
Yes, I understand what you are asking. If your domain
registration host allows you to assign a sub domain, then
yes, you must change the name servers with them.
The GetResponse domain name servers are :
a.ns.domadd.getresponse.com
b.ns.domadd.getresponse.com
Please note that a and be are part of the names. Please
do not remove them.
You must perform this change with your domain registration
company. If you are not sure how to do this, please contact
your domain registration company's support.
Once moved, this domain name will not be available for
services other than GetResponse (i.e. websites or regular
email will no longer work). Please move a domain name
that is NOT being used for another purpose.
As you already know, your domain name is NOT active
right away. Due to the time delays required to process the
domain registration and propagate the DNS information,
your domain name will point at GetResponse in 72 hours
from redirection.
I hope you find this helpful.
Best Regards,

Did you get this to work?
It should be possible to create the subdomain on it's own individual account. On a cpanel server you would just create the sub.domain.com account like you create all other non sub domain accounts.
Then edit the zone file so the a record points to the getresponse server and add their nameservers in there as well. |

I feel your pain. With thier a.ns and b.ns it is a little more tricky to edit your dns zones. Let me know if you would like me to post screenshots and instructions on how to do this on the CPanel.
