Hi,
Currently, in the GetResponse system, the [[firstname]] personalization feature only works if the subscriber fills in his full name. It doesn't work if the subscriber only fills in his first name.
If the subscriber only fills in his first name in the "Name" field, the system will use "Friend" (instead of his first name) whenever the [[firstname]] personalization feature is used. E.g. if John Doe only fills in "John" as his name, then whenever I use the [[firstname]] personalization, John will get an email that says "Hi Friend" instead of "Hi John".
As you know, "Name" (supposedly the subscriber's full name) is a compulsory field for GetResponse. However, I've found that most subscribers don't fill in their full name (first and last name) when they subscribe. Most of my subscribers only fill in one word - and it is almost always their first name (and almost never their last name).
So, here is the improvement I suggest:
If the subscriber only fills in one word for the "name" field, the system should treat it as his "first name" by default. I think currently the system treats it as his "last name" by default - which makes no sense, because if someone only fills in one word for the "name" field, it is almost always his first name (instead of his last name).
On a related note, here is a second improvement I suggest.
Right now, GetResponse users are required to ask for their subscribers' full names (because "name" is a required field, and there isn't the option of changing the required field to "first name").
So my second suggestion is, instead of having "name" as a required field, I suggest giving GetResponse users the option of using "first name" as a required field instead. Because I've found most people are reluctant to give their full name to a website that they're visiting for the first time, and most of the time they only fill in their first name anyway.
Another (related) third suggestion:
Also, since opt-in conversion rates generally increase when you only ask for the subscribers' email (instead of name and email), how about giving GetResponse users the option of only asking for their subscribers' emails (instead of requiring name and email)?
(If the reason "name" is required is because you are concerned about spam accusations, an IP stamp should take care of that concern.) |

Hello,
I have logged into your account and after checking
all four campaigns, I do not show that you have pre-
defined any variables.
To set up predefined variables, please log into your
account and go to Subscribers>>My Subscribers>>
Predefined Fields and choose the campaign. To
learn more about personalization, please click on the
corresponding link.
[[firstname]] will print your prospect's first name (i.e.
'Hi [[firstname]]' will print 'Hi John!', if your prospect's
first name is John).
[[name]] will print your prospect's whole name (i.e.
'Mr. [[name]]' will print [[Mr. John Wayne]]', if your
prospect's name is John Wayne).
Sometimes the system may be unable to extract
your subscribers name and will then print "Default
Name" instead. You can choose to have "Friend"
used in such case. Simply type the chosen word into
the box provided. To set this default name, please
go to Campaign Settings>>Subscribers and scroll to
#5.
In regards to your suggestions about the webform,
please feel free to submit these ideas in the Idea
GoldMine section from your GetResponse account.
The ideas submitted by users are reviewed and dis-
cussed by our development board.
Best Regards,
GetResponse Customer Support Team |
