Hi,

My company is experiencing some real problems with email delivery which we simply aren’t able to solve ourselves.

I’d appreciate if any of you guys here could give me any advice or idea you might have on how to solve this.

Here’s the problem:

We send our “confirmation” and “friend invitation emails” from our smtp server and we’ve discovered, through testing, that the emails more often than not end up in the “bulk folder” or doesn’t arrive at all when sent to large free email providers like Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo.

We’re on a shared server but our IP-adress doesn’t seem to be blacklisted, so I don’t think that is the problem, because sometimes the emails actually do get through to the inboxes. We’ve ordered a dedicated IP though, just in case.

The confirmation and invitation emails don’t contain much text at all, are written in plain text and we’ve ran them through several spam testers with a 0.0 score, so that most likely isn’t the problem either.

We’ve edited the email headers according to recommendations, so I doubt that is what causes the problems.

So what is the problem? I have absolutely no idea, and if we’re having these problems with these simple emails, I just don’t understand how other companies are able to get their corresponding emails delivered. I guess email deliverability experts who offer consulting must be pretty darn busy these days!

Any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello,

The truth is that there can be a different email deliver-
ability for every mailing that you send out, as more
and more ESPs are introducing various antispam pro-
tection, that may affect legitimate mailings as well.
The deliverability depends on many factors, and I would
not dare to quote any figure here, as it also depends on
the content of the messages you are sending out from
your account. GetResponse has established relationships
with all major ESPs, and we are in touch of them when-
ever a potential problem may arise to ensure that your
mail gets through.

The logic behind content filtering is actually very
simple. If you do get spam (and who doesn't, right?)
then I am sure you have noticed that most of such
emails sound similar and offer similar products.
The ISPs and Email Providers correctly assume that
some keywords and phrases are more likely to be
used by spammers than anyone else. Unfortunately,
if the spam filters detect similarity between your
messages and spam, they will go into the "shields up"
mode and often end up classifying your mail as spam.

I hope this information has shed some light on the
issue of deliverability for you.

Best Regards,

GetResponse Customer Support Team
