Your Yes I Can VB Gold Gift Message
April 3rd, 2008 at 6:11 amProblems and You
By Mike Tully
Happy anniversary to me!
Today, April 3, marks
the anniversary of one of
the best days of my life. On this date 31 years
ago, I first went to work as a sports writer for
United Press International.
Before I reported for
work, I mentioned to someone
that I was going to working with UPI. They said:
"It will be the most exciting job of your
life."
Until I became a coach
many years later, they were
right. What a way to live! Going to the World
Series, the Olympics, the Stanley Cup playoffs,
etc.
But this message is
really about you, not me. Why?
Let me tell you what I was thinking on the morning
of April 3, 1977. All I could think of was
problems. Will I be safe walking in New York?
Could I park my car? If so, would it cost
anything? Would it be there when I got out of
work?
In other words, I was seeing the PROBLEMS,
not the POSSIBILITIES.
How about you? When
you look at the landscape of
your life, do you tend to see the problems
or the
possibilities?
Let's be more specific
and talk about volleyball.
If you're a coach, do you see problems
or
possibilities when:
-You're in a tough
conference?
-There's a player on your team who's hard to reach?
-You have trouble in a certain arena?
-Your school
administration isn't helpful?
One of my favorite
quotes from "Yes, I Can!" Director
Dave Cross is:
"No situation has any meaning except the one that you
give it."
In other words, you
can CHOOSE to look for, and to
see, any aspect of life that you wish. You can
either see the problems, or the
possibilities.
Which one will help you the most?
