    TICKING MAN - THE SEQUEL

Edinburgh based Production Company Roaring Fire Films is casting the sequel to the feature The Ticking Man directed by Steven Lewis Simpson, which is currently being successfully sold internationally.

They are seeking two actors for the roles of Stan, a middle-age rough around the edges Scottish detective.

And also a Hitman (probably late twenties to thirties). The characters ethnicity is irrelevant but we are looking for a genuinely strong physical presence. His origin shall probably be from the USA but that’s still up for grabs.

Filming is due to commence late February through to late March in Edinburgh. The majority of auditions shall take place in Edinburgh but the producer/director is due to be in London from the 5th to the 8th of February to hold selective auditions so please e-mail details before then if you are suitable for either of these parts.

We shall also be casting various roles closer to the time but shall be looking for local Scottish actors to fill them so if you are based North of the border then please feel free to send through your information.

Please e-mail a photo (avoid large files) and CV to steve@roaringfire.com.

Further information and reviews on The Ticking Man can be found at IMDB.com.
Note from Editor: I worked with Steve on the first Ticking Man and it is now starting to do the rounds of International Cinema which will help to fund this, the sequel. Unfortunately, I was killed in the first one so I miss out this time :-( Some you win.... Definitely recommend this opportunity. Steve's a great guy !

Lead role in new BBC drama
    Lead in Channel 4 comedy
Major role in 8 million pound Independent feature Role in Kevin Spaceys new film National play tour

These are some of the more obvious successful results that have come from addressing their acting issues in this intensive acting environment. As well, many students have obtained more relaxation, pleasure, and creative freedom in their acting. These achievements have come from as little as one class, giving greater knowledge and tools that have been used, too longer work that has achieved a substantial change in the depth of their acting, leading to securing major roles.

As each class passes this list expands, and this year brings a full program of classes secured at the Diorama in central London spaced over the year. 2004 presents you with the perfect opportunity to put your thoughts into action.

    WHAT'S ON
    William's Bit of Help

This is a comedy about William Shakespeare, and the so-called Authorship question of who wrote the plays ascribed to him. What if in fact they weren't written by him, what sort of person would that make the person we know and (perhaps) love? And if Shakespeare didn't write them, who did?

Come and enjoy this story about a writer who wants to write, but can't -- until he gets "a bit of help".

"Very well performed piece, with deft comic touches" - Marc Blakewill, Fringe Report

"...had to tell you how much I enjoyed it?a lot of genuine belly-laughs in there as well as a well-crafted and paced story." - an audience member's email to Both Feet

    SEMBLANCE OF MADNESS

    By John H. Newmeir

Tues to Sat til 15th Feb. at 7.30, Sundays at 6.30,.Sat Mat. 2.30

The use of drama as a form of therapy has long been a concern of mine. Under the guidance of a skilled, qualified practitioner it can be of great benefit but used insensitively there is a danger that the damage caused by, for example, reducing participants to gibbering wrecks can be counterproductive. A while back a number of actors commented in “The Stage” that they felt the regimes at certain well-known drama schools to be unnecessarily brutal.

Semblance of Madness is not, thankfully, set in a drama school but in a Psychiatric hospital where three women have gathered for their weekly drama lesson. Each participant, though, claims to be the nurse and the puzzle for the audience is to determine which of these volatile, vulnerable women is actually not a committed inmate. It is an intriguing premise which, if less sensitively directed, could be too painful to watch but Nic Paris has created an atmosphere where although we may squirm at some of the bullying we are never quite sure until the play’s end as to much is real and how much is semblance.

The performances are stunning examples of ensemble playing as Kathryn O’Reilly, Jo Arber and Toni Darlow weave their deceptive ways around the stage with elegant timing and energetic emotion. The pace of the play is intensely fast; almost manic which, on reflection, is appropriate. At just under an hour in playing time a visit to The Etcetera Theatre is an appropriate way to begin an evening – especially with a group of friends who will enjoy discussing the issues surrounding this intense drama.

    SINGING IN THE RAIN

    Review By Carlos Ramos

    Richmond Theatre
    Box office 02089399230

If you think you have seen "Singing in the Rain" enough times on screen then go to see the Bros Theatre Company stage version at Richmond Theatre. It will change your mind and heart.

Exceptional choreography,well-looked after costume design and careful American pronunciation sums up for a fun, uplifting experience. See Gene Kelly's solo number once again by Bryan Cardus and Maria Waters hilarios interpretation of costar Lina Lamont in the play. Original combination of theatre and cinema depicting the transition and evolution of cinema to talking movies, the new discovery of dubbing and its effect on the actors' lives and careers. Not to be missed.

    THE TRON THEATRE

    THE TRON THEATRE
    in association with
    SWEETSCAR
    SWITCHBACK
Written & Directed by Adrian Osmond

    Tuesday 10th to Saturday 14th February @ 8pm

    EVER CHANGING, NEVER RESTING
SWITCHBACK IS THE RIDE OF YOUR LIVES

This February the Tron has a Valentine’s treat that’s certain to satisfy. A compelling love story written and directed by Adrian Osmond, Switchback will be one of the most talked about shows this year. Adrian was last at the Tron directing our smash hit Possible Worlds and Switchback looks sure to repeat that show’s creative and popular success. Uniquely staged, Switchback is a different show every night, twisting and turning to give every audience a unique play that will never be repeated, and a night at the theatre that will be unforgettable.

“So often, events in our life seem arbitrary: a glance can send our world off in an entirely different direction. Yet we can also feel trapped by what our environment has to offer. It occurred to me: why not create a play in which elements of the script could be interchanged - that similar events and dialogue would occur at every performance, but in a different sequence each time?

During rehearsals for most plays, we make decisions that limit our options, aiming to give the audience the same “ideal” production each night. This process creates many wonderful works for the stage, but it can feel limiting: time and time again, we find several thrilling interpretations of a moment, and it can be agonising to leave so many of these behind. We want to give the audience as many permutations as possible. With SwitchBack, we can.

Each night, over less than two hours, the audience will see two unique, unrepeatable versions of SwitchBack. The scenario is simple: in a remote cabin, former lovers Chase and Hope are reunited. They plummet through the past and push towards a possible future, heading towards new destinations every time. It is a deeply tender, personal work; and I believe that everyone will recognise some of their own actions and choices within this story.

I’m thrilled that this production reunites some of the talent behind Possible Worlds, and also introduces some exceptional artists to the Tron. We’ve embarked on this journey to discover new possibilities, so it is apt that SwitchBack also launches SweetScar. This company has been created to seize chances that some organisations may not be able to take. SweetScar is here to leap into uncharted territories, celebrating both the longings and the wonders of life.

SwitchBack is a constant process of discovery. I’ve been living with its ideas for over a year, and its potential keeps surprising me. Seeing this production should be an experience that will last with you long after you leave the theatre, and hopefully one that will grow and deepen with time.’ - Adrian Osmond, January 2004

What the press had to say about Possible Worlds:

‘Adrian Osmond directs a beautifully crafted evening of crafty theatre and sleight of mind.’
    The Guardian Guide

“… rare to find such a complex story so beautifully told.”
    The Stage

Switchback runs from the 10th to the 14th of February @ 8.00pm in the Tron’s Main Theatre.

    ROMEO AND JULIET

Taking theatre to audiences across Scotland

Prime Productions is delighted to be opening their tour of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, at Perth Theatre. The show officially opens the Perth Theatre Spring Season on Friday 30 January at 7.30pm prior to a two month Scottish tour, which will play the length and breadth of Scotland from Stranraer to the Isle of Skye.

Romeo and Juliet follows Prime Productions two enormously successful tours of Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off by Liz Lochhead and Alastair Cording’s adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbons’ classic work Sunset Song, which was nominated for a TMA Award in October 2003.

Shakespeare’s best known play, with some of theatre’s greatest love scenes and finest poetry weaves themes of love, revenge and reconciliation which are just as relevant today as when it was first performed around 1596 at a time of great change. The story tells the story of two feuding families, Romeo and Juliet blazing with forbidden love and one man hopes to bring peace and happiness to everyone by plotting with the lovers.

A strong ensemble cast includes Tommy Mullins and Victoria Bolt as Romeo and Juliet, Ian Grieve and Estrid Barton as Friar Laurence and Nurse to Juliet, and Tim Barrow, Tom Freeman, Sandy Grierson, Martha Leishman and Douglas Russell.

The play, his third production for Prime Productions, is directed by Benjamin Twist, and designed by Evelyn Barbour with choreography by Andy Howitt.

My friend has joined an agency where they charge him 10, 15 and 20% and he thinks this is fair. They don't charge for photos or work that he gets himself and he seems to be able to call them anytime, day or night - even weekends - and still gets help. His agent even drove photographs to the producer of a show he was in on a Sunday to ensure that my friend was in the promo material. Is this usual? Has he got a good agent here? What constitutes a good agent?
