Welcome to your uk theatre network
Passionate About Theatre
Dear Friend
Thanks. I seem to do a lot of thanking, but it is sincere. Thank you for being a member of the UK Theatre Network.
Now SIX YEARS OLD.
Yep. July 1st 2001 was when I launched the UK Theatre Network. It came out of the desire to support and promote theatre in the online world which at the time there were few places to do that. It was back in the day when I was co-founder of the UK Casting Network for Shooting People and I said to Jess and Cath that theatre could do with a similar service. As their focus was purely in the independent film world, I decided to go it alone and six years later those core ideas have become a world and industry trend we now call "Social Networking". None of us could have predicted it. We were just passionate about sharing connections, links, resources and importantly, networking with like-minded people. Each week I am now meeting people who say "so you're the guy behind UK Theatre Network", so it's nice to know that word is definitely spreading and I'm delighted that it goes from strength to strength.
PASSIONATE ABOUT THEATRE, FILM, STANDUP, GIGS, PHOTO...
The strategy for UKTN in 2007/8 is to continue to develop parallel networks in other fields. This will help to introduce theatre to new audiences who may not be regular theatregoers. A click on their favourite film or gig might turn out to be a few more clicks to see what's on theatre. I'm currently looking for editors for those elements, so if you know anyone let me know.
UKFILM.TV PROJECTS
Making It In Hollywood has been a lot of fun and I'll be continuing the festival route with it. Channel 4 will be looking at it next week and it has been submitted to Raindance, so I'll keep you posted with the twists and turns that one takes.Little India is a low budget comedy film I'm now attached to as Producer. It has been entered into Film London's Microwave scheme as a bid for up to £50,000. Another £50,000 needs to come from local authority and lottery funding in order to make it a a success, so it's still a long way from saying it will definitely happen. Filming targetted for November 2007
KPAX-II: The Return of Prot is the sequel to the Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey blockbuster. I received the latest version of the script from author Gene Brewer this week and I'm also now attached to it as Producer. Gene reckons that Jeff Bridges will get involved but it looks like Kevin Spacey has hung up his acting boots. I have some theatre related ideas linked to it which might interest him. It would be nice to get this one going but Kilimanjaro might be an easier mountain to climb. Filming targetted for Summer 2008.OTHER NETWORKS
Remember to connect up if you are on any of the online networks. Facebook is my favourite at the moment and I've started developing some UKTheatre.TV and UKFilm.TV applications for that which are quite exciting. Click here to add me as a friend.
Bebo have been very supportive and continue to feature UK Theatre on their Video section. If you have a theatre related video, then let me know. I can have up to 60 uploaded, and I'm happy to promote members work as well.
Two major international TV broadcasters have also contacted me to provide online content for Australia and New York, so this is an interesting development which could get videos shown to millions around the world on TV.It's all happening, indeed.

based on the novel by Ingvar Ambjørnsen
in original stage adaptation by Axel Hellstenius in collaboration with Petter Næss
In a new version by Simon Bent
After a sell-out season at the Bush Theatre, this critically-acclaimed production now transfers to the West End for a limited season. Based on the award-winning cult film, Elling stars John Simm (Dr Who, Life on Mars, State of Play), Adrian Bower (Teachers).
Mummy's boy Elling (Simm) and his roommate, the uncouth reluctant virgin Kjell Bjarne (Bower) are the Odd Couple of Oslo: a pair of confused souls taking their first steps in the outside world after years of an isolated and institutional life. Given a flat in the city by social services, their mission is to re-assimilate themselves into society - it's either that or a return to the asylum. All they have to do is convince their social worker that they really are ‘normal', even if it does feel safer sleeping in a wardrobe...REVIEWS
"The most blissfully funny and touching evening I've had in the theatre for ages"
Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
"Elling is one of those rare, precious pieces of spoken-word drama that persuades even sour old cynics like me to go home riding high on waves of joie de vivre. There is no better theatrical tonic in town." Nicholas de Jongh, Evening Standard
"Moving and very, very funny. Thoroughly life-affirming"
Sam Marlowe, The Times "Simm delivers a tour de force in the title role.Adrian Bower is a delight"
