The Halloween Trick Was On Me!Hi Friend :) I am writing to you today because of the link that didn't work for the CheapWebTechs.com web site (http://CheapWebTechs.com) in the last email around Halloween. I am sure that a company that does tech work doesn't look very competent if the link in the email doesn't even work! But let me explain what happened and that way the trick won't be on you too, instead, you will get a treat. :) I use get response for my mailing list service and ever since the upgrades -which does have an easier navigation and nifty templates and postcards - whenever you type in HTML links and then do a spell check it looks at the link as if it were text (words) and when it re-shows the message after the spell check - when the little spell checking window closes - there is a very good chance that all of the links in your email message are broken! If you look at what the link tried to link trough to (thanks to someone I talked to on the phone that told me what happened when they had tried just today) there is a "%20" in the middle between 2 instances of the URL in a row. [I don't know if you are aware or not, but the %20 is the code version of a "space" and when you write an HTML link, you actually write the URL twice with some code around it that makes it a link.. ] So what the spell checker did was turn all the "<"and ">" and any spaces into code that stands for those letters and symbols and of course broke the link. (UHG!) This is the third time it has happened to me and I apologize for any inconvenience. I knew that might happen from past experiences and forgot to re-check the links in the message before I sent it out and after doing the spell check. I didn't realize what had happened as I was busy trying to finish packing getting ready for my move that was supposed to happen this last weekend. (Side note: Yes I said "was" supposed to happen As you know my luck has been a little off this year and as I was sitting in the apartment complex office signing the lease etc., the maintenance manager called and told the office lady (Vera) that the whole apartment was flooded! The water heater had burst and then kept running trying to refill all night and so the whole apartment not just the area by the water heater was under water... another great story to tell the grand kids! You have to look at this kind of stuff this way or you would pull your hair out!) I really do have a great service at CheapWebTechs.com and a very good discounted rate for you as my readers. I am not even advertising it anywhere else since it is limited in the number of memberships and I am giving you the chance to fill it up first! I also would hope that you would understand that everyone makes a mistake now and then and give the site another look (Or a first look if you couldn't get there the 1st time!) at http://CheapWebTechs.com Thank you for reading this explanation / clarification / lesson and I am hoping that this will keep it from happening to you! :) Your partner in publishing, "Techie" Teri Message Added: November 13th, 2006 at 8:05 pm Powered by GetResponse Email Marketing |
