    Hey Friend,

I wanted to start by correcting the bill number in the last email.
    Sorry it's AB1634 not AB1643. My bad.

The response I received from Gazette subscribers over the
last email I sent out about bill AB1634 was interesting.

I received dozens of responses from thanks for the info
to what I would call hate mail.

Bill AB1643 looks like a decent step in the right direction. However
if you peel back the layers you will start to find that again it is
a botched law that unfairly targets responsible dog owners and
does not do justice to the problem.

I said working dogs were not exempt from the law. If the
dogs are service dogs, working K9 dogs, or dogs bred
by breeders who get the permit.

That does not mean all Search and Rescue dogs are exempt. Those
dogs owned by volunteer's who are not law enforcement are not
covered by the law nor are those private organizations that breed
working K9's for agencies that are not Law enforcement either.

The bill leaves these things up to the local agencies to figure out.

So for example the AKC has stated the American Pit Bull Terrier
is not a breed because they do not register them. If the agency
agrees with them and does not recognize the UKC where does
that leave Pit Bull owners? Up the creek. Because they are mixed
breed dogs and there are no exemptions for mixed breeds.

This is not likely to happen but the point is, it can.

I also was asked about the half-truths and blatant lies
that shelter operators and supporters give the public.

One example of this is the number of dogs housed and
put down each year. In California it is said that over
one billion animals end up in their systems each decade.

How do they know that? Do they count them? When did
they count them? Where can we access these information?

The problem lies with breeders putting dogs in bad homes
and those homes giving up their dogs to shelters for what
I believe are completely irrational and stupid reasons.

One of the most common is not enough time. Another they
are moving. Another is the dog is too old. Yet another
is they don't have the space.

These people make me sick. You don't get a dog if you
don't have time for them! You don't get a dog if won't
take them with you when you move. It's pathetic.

Here is a site with more information about the bill:

    http://www.doggonecalifornia.org/

I hope this email and site will help you get more information
and make up your own mind. I'm not saying I'm 100% right
about everything. What I am saying is make up your own
mind based on all the views and facts.

Thanks for everyone (even the hate mailers) who emailed
    me about the last email.

Again the bill is AB1634 and again I apologize for
    making that goof.

    Best Regards,
Jason Mann, Angel ThD/CGC, Honey and Mr. Patches.
