PenPals News - Feb 2005
February 9th, 2005 at 6:36 pmHi Everyone,
We have three items of news for you this month.
1. QUESTION OF THE MONTH
Q. "I specified in my profile that I
wanted to be matched
with Females in the 40 - 55 years Age Group and you
have been matching me with teenagers some of whom
are Males!"
A. It's the way you set up your profile...
In the 'Information about who you're looking
for'
section where it says GENDER, you need to make
Female 'ESSENTIAL'.
Desirable or Quite Desirable will bias matches towards
Females, but it may also match you with some Males if they
match so high on your other criteria that their total score
outranks some of the Females!
"ESSENTIAL" however will
only match you with the
gender you have nominated.
If you find you are being matched with penpals
who
are way too young (or far too old) you need to make the
Age-category 'Essential' as well so that you are ONLY
matched
with people in your specified age
group.
You can always use the 'Quick Search' function to
manually
locate members who are in the next older or next younger
category should you want a wider
range of ages.
To make these updates to
your Profile, from your Main Menu
click on [View Your Profile] then click on [Redo
Profile]
NOTE:
Gender, Age & Country are the only places we recommend
you use the extreme rating of "ESSENTIAL".
2. QUICK SEARCH
(providing there were more people that matched what you
were searching for than could be displayed in the original
their PenPals Plus Main Menu.
We think WebTV might have a problem with long web pages...
That would explain why it lets you login initially and create a
profile and then next time it refuses to load your page.
(What changed in the meantime is your Main Menu is now populated
with matches which makes it 3 to 4 times longer than it was before!)
If you page seems to be stuck and does not fully load, one thing that
There should be an option button on your
keyboard and when you hit it then it a screen
pops up on the TV and "reload" is one of them.....
but an easier way to refresh the screen is to hit the
"cmd" button and "R" at the same time and it will reload
....either way is good.
If that doesn't help then a more drastic solution is for us
to do some surgery on your page and remove enough matches
to make WebTV happy. Just email me and let me know if
you need this done.
It is a bit of a nuisance but I would recommend that
on an ongoing basis you keep your page down to 6 - 12 matches
by deleted any excess. Usually the ones near the end of the page
are not quite as good matches as the ones towards the top.
That will help prevent your page running foul of WebTV in the
future.
As we add new matches almost daily, you will probably need
to do this "pruning & trimming" a couple of times per week.
Good luck and enjoy!
