1. OUTLOOK: Bank stocks showed strength for the entire session and helped to erase early losses. A better-than-expected new home sales report seemed to have little impact on the broad market. In-line earnings from Verizon were underwhelming. Market players were preparing for the next batch of earnings announcements, which started after the closing bell and featured Amgen. Finally, Amgen reported strong earnings and raised its outlook. The stock jumped after-hours. We expect more volatility later this week as the market looks for direction. U.S.futures point to a lower open.
