Friend, The Differences Between Electronic Keyboards and Acoustic Pianos!

  •

Have You Ever Wondered About the Advantages and Disadvantages of Electronic Keyboards and Acoustic Pianos?

Well, if you have... you're a "smart puppy!"

Because, there are unique PROs and CONs, when you compare the two.

Let me tell you a true story...

About the time when I decided I wanted to play contemporary piano... in my mid twenties... I decided to visit my local music store.

    I
was looking around and "tinkering" with the keyboards, and a sales clerk approached me.

He said, "hey man, you can play!" I responded by saying, "yeah, but I'm uncomfortable playing electronic keyboards... it doesn't feel right in my hands... I'm used to the real piano!"

He then said, "you betta learn!"

    He was so RIGHT!

Just because I started playing piano at the age of 4 1/2 years old, coupled with the fact that all of my serious piano playing, was classical music. That didn't mean a thing!

I learned later on, that once you start playing an electronic keyboard, you will start "hearing" differently.

You only have one sound with the acoustic piano, but with the electronic keyboards today, YOU HAVE SO MANY SOUNDS TO EXPERIMENT WITH TO CREATE MUSIC!

Yes... I had to "open up" my mind... and stop being a "classical piano" SNOB!

    The rest is history...

Now I'm not suggesting owning an acoustic piano will not help you learn to play. I'm only suggesting that you NEED TO expand your palette of musical colors and explore other keyboard timbres!

But when it comes down to getting your chops (TECHNIQUE) together, building strength and endurance in your fingers, YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE ON AN ACOUSTIC PIANO... THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE!

So, if you're lucky enough to own an acoustic piano, go to your nearest Radio Shack or Music Store and purchase an inexpensive electronic keyboard, preferably a Yamaha that is "touch sensitive," and experiment.

I've discovered that practicing on an electronic piano helps you hear differently when playing on an acoustic piano.

    Have a nice weekend,

    Ron
