Hi Friend,
As you study the piano, you soon discover that you'll learn a lot faster if you practice with other musicians whenever possible.
I don't care if it's your younger brother or older sister; or your neighbor next door that plays drums or saxophone.
Your uncle or grandparent... it doesn't make ANY difference.
Try to get together with another musician whenever possible and just PLAY.
You see... when you practice with another musician you really learn how to play your instrument, because you will readily discover what is important to PLAY and what isn't!
I don't care if you practice 24/7 by yourself... you'll learn so much more by spending time rehearsing with another musician or vocalist.
That's right... you know everybody wants to SING!
Invite a vocalist over, and see how you can support what he or she is saying vocally.
There's a different technique to accompany a singer.
Sometimes, it is more important what you don't play, as to what you play! Think about that...
Learn How to Improvise Over 2 Chords
Stop trying to be "juke box!"
My courses emphasize your honing the skills to create music over chord progressions... melodic and rhythmic.
When you master this skill, you're basically a songwriter. This means you can sit down at the piano anytime and create music - for FUN or FINANCIAL REWARD!
When you hear a song on a recording, you know exactly how to practice it to be able to play it by ear!
Attached you will find a "lead sheet" entitled "LazyBird." This was written by the Jazz great, John Coltrane.
I've also attached a midi file of the song being played by a group of musicians.
Study the lead sheet, but listen closely as to how the musicians interpret the chords and melody to create MUSIC!
Don't forget to download the attachments.
To your success,
Ron
