[MWG] Today's Pond Q&A------------------------------- Today's Pond Q&A In this issue: - Lily Fertilizer - UV question ----------------------------- Question> This is not a question, but rather a compliment. I have had the same water lillies for three years. The first two years, I put capsules in to fertilize. The lillies (and leaves) were always wimpy. And, it seemed I was pulling dead leaves out almost daily. This spring, I got the Microbe-Lift Ensure for plants, and the same plant has almost covered the pond. The stems are thicker, and I rarely have to climb in to dispose of dead growth. It was a good buy. If it is still working, how does it loose its effectiveness? I live in Myrtle Beach where my pond is exposed to sunlight the whole day so keeping it clear is a constant battle. I use Algae Fix once a week, Microbe Lift Ph once a week, have barley in the pond, and have a small 15 watt UV light. The UV light is probably too small but they are too expensive to replace. My pond is approx. 1800 gals. Any other suggestions for clearing up the water? A UV light only kills the free-floating algae anyway. It also is important to have a UV light to kill bacteria in the pond so when a fish gets a scale knocked off it won't get in and start a bad infection. You can add plants to the pond to compete with the algae for nutrients which will help control green water. By this time of year many pond owners don't even use the UV anymore, that is if they are only using it for the algae. - Carolyn Weise Happy Pondkeeping!
