February 05, 2012 Hurst, Texas
Santorum Wins GOP Straw Poll Event...while a number of well known incumbents lose.
by Nelson Thibodeaux

Somewhat conspicuous in their absence local incumbents State Representative Vicki Truitt and County Commissioner Gary Fickes were not present or had a presence by way of a booth at the Hurst Conference Center for the Straw Poll and both lost in the Straw Poll voting.  The Straw Poll reflected a very conservative leaning, perhaps due to Tea Party types influence.

While some district straw polls may be more meaningful as an indicator of possible winners in the Republican Primary, others hardly appear to be a forecaster of a potential GOP primary outcome.

For example, even with a booth presence, Congressman Kenny Marchant lost to challenger Grant Stinchfield. Political pundits give Stinchfield virtually no chance to win against Marchant who has a conservative voting record that is not likely to be challenged in his District 24.

Result appear below.

State Representative Candidate Ken Sapp running for District 91 was on hand to meet and discuss issues with attendees.  Sapp won his district's poll.
