06, 2012 GCISD Backs Off Controversial Implementation Schedule for New Middle School Schedules Concerning College Readiness Courses Meeting Tonight In response to growing parent concerns, GCISD released the following statement: Timeline adjusted for implementation of middle school College Readiness courses In response to parent feedback and our desire to ensure that all families are well informed about this initiative, district leaders have adjusted the implementation schedules for the new middle school course structure. The move to College Readiness courses will go into effect for the 2013-2014 school year and will begin in sixth and seventh grades, with phase-in to eighth grade in the following year. Adjusting the timeline will allow for continued professional development with a particular focus on classroom differentiation. Parents are invited to an informational meeting to discuss changes to the middle school course structure as it relates to the district's LEAD 2021 strategic plan. Superintendent Dr. Robin Ryan and members of the district's instructional leadership team will be on hand to provide historical information about the program and vision for the future, an explanation of the College Readiness courses and curriculum, and the process of transitioning to the new structure. Time will be provided for questions and answers. A list of Frequently Asked Questions, along with information about the course structure change and required sixth-grade courses, is available on the district website. Questions and responses are being added regularly to the FAQs. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, February 6, in the Panther Den at the GCISD Professional Development and Education Center, 5800 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville. |
