Got Something To Say?
May 3rd, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Hi Friend
I used to resist posting comments in forums.
I don't know why. I guess I just didn't want to
participate. Maybe I wanted to stay invisible. To not
make waves. To have no impact.
Silly me.
Everybody's got an opinion. Everybody's got value.
Everybody has impact.
I spent most of my life trying to avoid any impact at all.
Mostly I didn't value myself or my opinion. I'd built up
a wall between me and the world.
Now I'm making up for lost time!
Anyway, I set up a forum a few months ago. Because
I was getting lots of comments on the website
join-the-fun.com - and I had to upload all those comments
by hand. Copying-and-pasting them from the 'comments'
page to their own web page.
You can see the results at -
http://www.join-the-fun.com/comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/effexor-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/paxil-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/celexa-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/cymbalta-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/zoloft-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/lexapro-comments.html
http://www.join-the-fun.com/antidepressant-comments.html
(That last link also has some nice general comments
as well.)
Sometimes it would take a whole month from the time
someone left a comment until I got around to posting it!
Well we can't have that, can we?
So I finally set up a forum. Problem is, I completely
ignored it - never posting a thing; sometimes for months.
Plus, I noticed a lot fewer people were leaving comments.
I finally determined it was because it took longer to
register on the forum to leave a comment. When you first
click on the Register link, it takes you to a page with a
bunch of blather that basically says:
1. The forum owner is not liable for any posting.
2. Don't leave any 'bad' posts
3. This forum uses cookies to enhance your viewing
pleasure.
It takes a whole page to tell you that.
But a lot of people were dropping out instead of scrolling
down and simply clicking the link to the sign-up page.
HOWEVER. Here's what you do:
1. go to the forum -
http://www.emotional-comments.com
and click on the link in the upper right hand of the page
that says 'Register'.
2. Then scroll right on down to the sign-up link. (Since
I've already told you what the blather says!)
3. Click on the link at the bottom of the blather page.
4. Once you're on the *real* sign-up page, simply type
in a username. Maybe use your real name, or a nickname,
or a name you'd like people to call you... whatever. Be
inventive if you like.
Then type in a password. Something simple. (I mean,
come on, who's going to bother to hack into your profile
to change your settings???)
And that's all you need!
From start to finish, it takes less than one minute if
you're in a hurry to register.
If you want to state your interests, where you're from,
etc. - then it could take a few minutes.
Then you're "in".
Then you've got a place to 'tell it to the world'. It's
the next best thing to having your own blog! Type in a
comment, and then click the button - and Presto! - you're
on the internet. Preserved for all eternity. (Long as I
keep paying the monthly hosting fee, that is...!)
It gives you a place to express yourself. Hey, I don't call
it 'Emotional Comments' for nothing. (Actually, it costs
me ten bucks a month.)
I always talk about writing out what you're feeling - as
a way to process your emotions. Here's one place to do it.
Also, you get the chance to interact with like-minded
people, if you choose. And see what others on my list
have to say.
Finally, you can use this forum to ask me questions.
Every time I send out an email like this to my list, I
get some people replying with some sort of question.
Now you can ask in the forum, and I'll give as complete
an answer as I can. That way others may be able to
benefit as well.
Just head on over to -
http://www.emotional-comments.com
I'll be waiting.
Oh, one more thing. I get tons of people who register
just to leave a link to their affiliate program or some
other web site that has no relation to the forum.
I delete these ASAP.
If you *really* want to leave a link, then you better
have something *meaningful* to say! Something that's on
topic. Then discretely add a link and MAYBE I won't delete
it.
I'm not making any promises.
(If you have a web site, and we've already communicated
back and forth, then you're safe. I'd love for you to
add a link to your site. You know who you are.)
all the best
