*Interested People* IvyBot: Observations and comments
July 31st, 2009 at 5:31 am
Hello Interested People,
Just some quick notes about IvyBot.
(But first let me
remind you today is the LAST DAY to fund your Tazoodle account and get the
200% bonus (you put in $100, you get $300 in credits) and also
the last day to join Millionairex1 for the lower
price before launch tomorrow. See:

for more info. Thanks! )
Back to IvyBot (more info here:

)
1. Supposedly the price is going up today. I don't know if
it is true or not though... but that is the rumour. So if you are
considering it, buy it now at the lower price, and decide within
60 days if you want to keep it or not. It is VERY easy to get a
refund from clickbank if we decide it is a dog.
2. According to the manual, Ivy doesn't trade 5 digit
brokers (ecn accounts). Ivybot developers do say they will have
the robot prepared for 5 digit trading in a few weeks
however.
3. For those wanting to keep an eye on the ivybot robot, I
have set up 2 demos. One is at fxopen and can be watched
here:
http://ivydemo.mt4stats.com/
The other is at gomarkets and can be watched here:
http://dizivydemo.mt4stats.com/
However, gomarkets uses ecn trading and 5 digits and Ivybot is
not supposed to work with 5 digit trading. It seems to be doing
ok so far though, I figured we could try it anyway since it is
just a demo account. What the heck!
4. Backtesting wasn't that great. But since the algorithms
are supposed to be adjusted for current market conditions and
updated often, it makes sense that backtesting what works in
today's market wouldn't necessarily do well in the past.
5. The last few months did backtest fairly well and
especially the usd/chf which had 100% wins from Jan to
present.
6. IvyBot has a default stop loss of ZERO and manages
stops internally. This can be very dangerous if the robot stops
functioning for some reason (platform is turned off, internet
connection cuts off, etc) because a zero stop loss can completely
wipe out an account. You can change that in the settings, but you
have to give it enough room for the robot to manage its
trade.
7. That said, from backtesting results, losses ranged from
a few pips to 200/250 pips. So expect some drawdown with Ivy
trading and plan your risk according to your account size
(margin) and how much drawdown it can handle.
8. Also from backesting, we can see that Ivy doesn't
necessarily trade often. All 4 currency pairs can go for
months at a time without trading. This says that the robot
is very particular about signals and will only open a trade when
all conditions are met. So you may have a lot of trading one
month on 2 pairs and no trading at all on the other two or any
mix of the 4 pairs trading and not trading.
9. IvyBot is NOT a scalper! The take profit defaults are
pretty big, but this is managed internally by the robot as well.
It will close a trade with a smaller take profit than the default
setting. But the default numbers are more in line with position
trading (I think that is what it is called). This is where you
choose an entry and an exit and stick with it over a long period
of time if necessary to get to your target. But clearly from the
demos, it does scalp as well.
10. I don't recommend going live with this robot until we
can see it in action. So let's keep an eye on the demos for a
while... we have 60 days to decide.
11. Whatever you do, do not open an account at the broker
they recommend in the manual. Almost all the robot developers
"recommend" this same broker and I will tell you why. It is an
introductory broker for another actual broker (I am not sure
which one, it used to be FXCM). What this means is your actual
trading account will be with the actual broker, but it passes
thru this introductory broker first. The IB gets a full pip on
every trade you make and this is split with the robot developers.
That pip is coming out of YOUR spread and actually makes it
harder for the robot to win trades.
For example, at the actual broker, the spread is 4... but passing
thru this IB that spread is showing up as 5. That means you lose
an extra pip on every single trade, win or lose. And that one
extra pip can make the difference between a trade closing in
profit and turning around and closing at a loss instead.
I am not saying the developers don't deserve to earn extra money
for their work, I am just saying that it is an expensive way for
you to express your appreciation! Use a direct broker instead of
passing thru their IB link!
12. Well, that's it really. LOL All I can think of anyway.
