Zakatul Fitr:

-Zakatul Fitr is a form of financial obligatory deed upon the head of household on behalf of each Muslim family member

-Best if you give it out to deserving Muslims in the locality that you celebrate Eid at

-Best if you revive the Sunnah and discharge it in actual staple food (not cash) that recipients can consume/store

-You have to make sure it is delivered to the end recipients before Eid prayers (not simply drop it into the donation box before Eid prayer)

-If you don't know where to give in your locality, you can seek help from organizations in your area that distribute on your behalf on time (some masjids don't distribute on time, and some use the money for their own expenses). Below are some options if you are celebrating Eid in the US:

1- Atlanta, GA: Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. (www.baitulsalaam.net) distributes Eid Al Fitz Zakat in the US to homeless women and children who are survivors of domestic abuse send $10 to PayPal.com to haleem1@aol.com to help us reach our fund raising goal, insh'Allah. The Baitul Salaam Network, Inc. distributes, Eid Al Fitr Zakat, school supplies, toys and gifts to Muslimun Adeiso in Nsawm, Volta, Ghana donate $5 to help, insh'Allah.

2- Los Angeles, CA: Masjid Al-Mumin $6 (213) 925-1578 or (323) 296-5961  madina@pacbell.net

Poor families aren't just struggling during times of recession, but many analyst recognize there is a depression in poor sectors of the population.

3- Mainly NJ, MD, DC area: Al Maun Fund services families across the country with a large concentration in NJ, PA, MD and DC area. Many of these families are headed by widowed, divorced, and single mothers (and fathers) who have found themselves unemployed and struggling due to living below the poverty level. One poignant example is a mother of two who was expecting twins. She was laid off from a long term position during her pregnancy and was delayed getting unemployment due to company non compliance. This cause her to fall behind on her bills and suffer some pregnancy related health issues due to stress. There are other cases where sisters are trying to get re-established after residing in homeless shelters with their children. Any little thing will bring ease and a bit of hope to their lives inshallah. http://www.almaunfund.org/

4- Houston, TX: Al Amaanah (refugees service) We are accepting zakat fitr (which is $10 per person)https://alamaanah.com/index.php?page=financial-contribution

5- Minneapolis, MN Building Blocks Zakat ul Fitr Distribution. http://www.thebuildingblocks.org/contact-us.html

- We mainly serve the refugee and immigrant population in the Twin Cities area. We give enough food to feed the family for three days according to the family size, using FDA guidelines
- Many of those in need have large families or are seniors.
- We usually serves about 1,000 families every Ramadan; this Ramadan we have served 320 families so far and plan to have another large food distribution on the last weekend of Ramadan.
- The need is such that people wait 2 hours in line to get food. In addition, several organizations have requested that we distribute food at their sites, including one organization that serves the disabled. At our last food distribution, we were really touched by the reaction of a disabled brother in a wheelchair, who thanked us repeatedly for distributing the food.

May Allah reward you for sharing your Eid happiness with your needy brothers and sisters
