Hi Friend,
First a quick mention about the resource for this
week. I always say if you need a good root canal,
you visit a dentist, not the first person with a nice,
white smile. So why am I recommending a site by
a dentist about health and wellness? Because this
guy literally visited remote locations around the
world to observe healthy cultures to uncover their
common traits. Again, not mainstream - but who
wants to be mainstream when that means unhealthy
and overweight? Check out the Weston A. Price
foundation at:
http://www.westonaprice.org/
available in multiple languages
too, a very good
read. Make sure you check out the myth
busting section (about soy myths too)
Now, Friend, about success stories ...
I ran into "Joe" in the gym last
night again. I
mentioned him a few weeks ago about the guy
who started my fat loss e-course and took it
upon himself to take action on some things in
his life. When he started on Feb 5 he was 325
pounds and a short 6 weeks later had dropped
a whopping 50 pounds.
Last night I found him doing his cardio on the
stairclimber and asked him where he was at.
"I'm up 2 pounds", he said as he was cranking
out the stairs.
Up 2 pounds is ok. With all
the work he's doing
I'd not be surprised if he'd gained some muscle.
Without knowing what he's eating it's hard for me
to say what's going on, but from my own
experience, I know that I fluctuated a few pounds
every once in a while. There are a lot of factors
going on that affect it. Salt for example.
Having
a "cheat" meal or a "fre-e" meal that's higher in
salt can have us gain a few pounds overnight.
One of my clients and friends,
Pam Simonetti
from BC Canada was away to Vancouver on
holidays for a weekend with her husband and
daughter last week. She stuck to her program
and made good food choices even while eating
out. Her weight remained the same. Her husband
on the other hand gained 12 p.ounds. Now, for
that to be fat, he'd have to have eaten an
excess of 42,000 calories. (3500 calories in
a pound of fat x 12 pounds).
Pretty hard for that to have happened.
That kind of a weight gain is
usually salt related
as we've thrown off the electrolyte balance and
our body has retained water as a result. That
and the added likelyhood that a simple bowel
movement was in order. I know that traveling
affects a lot of people in that area. Once we
get home, the bowels become regular again
and our diet returns to normal so we drop the
water w.eight too. A gain of 12 p.ounds can
be reduced to 1 or 2 in a couple of days.
Friend, success stories can be
the thing
that drives us to become even better. I know
that my attitude is "if he can do it, I can do
it".
Tom Venuto and Jon Benson have a
great
book called "Fit over 40 - Role models for
excellence at any age" filled with over 50
success stories from people who've taken it
upon themselves to become better in their
later years. Tom asked me to be in the book,
but I was too young. lol.
It's a great source of inspiration and I
recommend it.
