Be a coward or swing for the wall - the big job

  • Most people are cowards and don't work hard to get the job they want. They are deep down afraid of the competition.

For you, I'm talking about the job you REALLY want. It would be perfect. It is a big stretch, but you could do it.

Sure you submit a resume to human resources. But, then you just wait. In 2 days you start feeling bad. In 2 weeks you send an email complaining about their unfair treatment. After 3 weeks you've told your friends you'd never take a job from them anyway. But you would.

You need to treat those great jobs like the ones you care less about.

For a job that would be easy for you, you go all out. If you miss it, no big deal. They are just idiots if they don't hire you. So you swing for the home run. As "Big Papi" Ortiz put it, "I just swing hard in case I hit it -- that's it."

Since you are not afraid of offending anyone you don't worry about offending HR. First you see if you know anyone there. Then you try to find out if you know anyone who knows someone there. You end up sending in 3 resumes. Not one goes to HR. When they say, "Just send it to HR," you laugh to yourself.

You follow up differently too. You send your resume to a manager. Two hours later you call to see if they got it. You say, "You're going to send that to the hiring manager, right?" The next morning you call the hiring manager and say, "When do I come in for the interview?" If you don't catch him you leave 3 voice mails and call back again after a 3 or 4 day layoff.

You push and you push. If you don't get it, you don't care. Remember, if they don't hire you THEY are idiots. You are just calling and emailing because they are idiots if they don't bring you in.

Your attitude. Your ability to feel superior gives you an edge.

For the next job you crave, go out and swing for all you are worth.
    1. Adjust your attitude
    2. Be bold and brazen, what can it hurt?
    3. Attack, attack, attack.

What's the worse that could happen? They don't hire you.

If you don't swing for all you are worth, they won't hire you anyway.

My 11 hour series on how to get a job is availble at www.howtoreallygetagreatjob.com . There is an hour just on what your attitude needs to be. Another seminar on accomplishments goes through step by step instructions on how to prove you are someone special.
