643 ways to get the inside track when you submit your resume.

  • This morning a friend asked, "Do you know anyone
at XYZ company?" He wants help getting his resume
    into the right hands.

As a matter of fact, I know 643 people in
Philadelphia that can get that resume past HR
    (Human Resources department).

I went to two websites, LinkedIn and Jigsaw.

LinkedIn.com has 435 people from that company in
the Philly area who are second generation to me.
That means I can get their name and job title.

Many are at the company, others had it as a
previous job. If I want to contact one I can
always look them up at whitepages.com. Or I can
just call the main office and ask for them by
    name.

Jigsaw.com has 208 people in that company listed
in the Philly area. I can get business email and
phone numbers for any of them. Title is listed in
Jigsaw, but I can also search by name within the
company. Put a LinkedIn name into Jigsaw and you
have a decent chance of finding the person.

    Now what do you do?

A quick email asking someone to "get my resume to
the manager of xxxx," might work.

I'm much more brazen than that. I'd call someone
with a title close to what I wanted and say, "I'm
Bryan Dilts. We haven't talked before. I was
wondering if you have a minute to help me? I'm
interested in a job as xxxxxxx and was hoping you
could tell me who is the manager or director in
    charge of that."

Then get the name, phone, and email address of
that manager. Call the manager and say who sent
you his direction. You have just used an insider
    name in your job search.

If the first person sends you to HR, call someone
else. The first person won't remember your name,
and they won't notify HR you are calling.

There you have it, the patented, trademarked, and
copyrighted best method ever to get 643 leads into
a company where you want a job.

My 11 hour series on how to get a job is availble

goes through step by step instructions on how to
prove your accomplishments on a resume and in an
