Read the Declaration of Independence
this Sunday
Please take the time to read the Declaration of
Independence, and the
Bill of Rights, on the steps of your county
court house on the 4th of July. This
practice, once common, was revived a few years
ago by members of the Constitution Party, and
has been slowly expanding across the State of
Texas.
It's too late to get a Public Service
Announcement (PSA) to your local newspaper, but
may not be too late to alert the local radio
station(s). Here is the result of one
such PSA in Collin County.

It only takes about twenty
minutes to read the Declaration. If it's
you by yourself, or with your family, you may
feel conspicuous, but we hear stories from
people like the lady who drove by the
courthouse, stopped at a red light and had time
to hear what was going on. She drove home
and announced to her family, who was holding a
large family reunion, "Guess what! We're
going to read the Declaration of Independence
together!" You never know the impact, but
if you feel conspicuous, that's good, because
it's precisely what you want -- for people to
notice and be drawn to this sort of
activity. That's how you find new
members.
Public officials like to be invited to read in
public. According to Daniel New, of
Hamilton County, "When I invited the sheriff of
Hamilton County, he responded with a
question: 'Why not read the Bill of
Rights, while you're at it?' " Why not,
indeed.
TIPS:
- Send a PSA in advance to local media
- Invite local politicians to join you in
reading
- Invite children (and adults) to dress up in
period costume
- Take pictures, and send a good one to your
local paper. Publicity after the fact is
still a good thing.
- Send a report of what your county did, with
pictures, to Chairman@CPTexas.us

Yes, believe it or
not, there are at least two other groups out
there who like our concept so much that they have
stolen our logos, our platform, and even our
name! It's nice to be popular, but this is the
real deal.
Just ask our National CP
