It's
Over!
The holidays, that is. Now we have to get on with our lives and our
businesses. We hope that your holidays were good and that you are ready
to plow into the new year with a great attitude and lots of
enthusiasm.
I would like to share with you a customer service story that happened
to me last night.
Yesterday was my birthday and my wife decided to take me to dinner. We
went to On the Border mexican restaurant in Duluth and minutes after we
arrived, we had placed our order. As we sat and talked and ate chips,
we were distracted and did not notice that thirty minutes had passed
and we still did not have our food.
It did seem like it was taking forever, but I was not watching the time
when our waitress came up and apologized and told us that the cook had
thought that our food was already done and the order had been thrown
away.
She quickly added that they were sorry and that our dinner tonight was
on the house!
She walked away and minutes later the manager came by and repeated the
apology stating that anything else that we wanted was also on the
house. When our food finally arrived it seemed to taste extra good,
knowing it was free. When our waitress came by to see if we needed
anything else, she insisted that I have dessert since it was my
birthday, but I was too stuffed to have it.
The bottom line here was that I did not have to say a word about not
getting good service. I did not have to complain at all. When they
realized that they had made a mistake, they not only corrected it, but
went to a lot of trouble to make sure that we were satisfied.
Not only will I eat there again, I suggest you stop by there sometime
in the future as well. It is the restaurant near gwinnett Place Mall on
Pleasant Hill Rd.
You see, great customer service can equal great referrals.
We have some good articles for you this week, be sure to read
them.

The Power Of Goal Achievement
Is In The Habit
By Josh Hinds
|
|
You had
your new year's resolution all planned out. This was your year to
"insert your missed goal here" :-). You knew exactly what you needed to
do; maybe you even got off to a blazing start!
You were
absolutely sure this was going to be your year! This goal is as good as
in the bag you thought. Then - BAM! - You suddenly realized that your
goal is nowhere in sight.
Does this
sound familiar?
If you
answered yes let me assure you that you're not alone. If this has
happened to you, here’s an approach that might help the next
time around. Reaffirm to yourself that most things are accomplished
when we're able to form habits around them.
Much in the
same way that negative habits transpire in our lives, so too can we
choose to introduce positive ones. The thing you have to remember is
that habits are formed through repetition.
Clearly
defining your goals is just one step towards attaining them. Equally
important is forming habits that go along with the dreams you've set
for yourself. "How do I form habits," you ask? It has been said that
after 21 days of solid repetition we can create habits around what we
desire.
That's
correct - just 21 days, but it has to be a solid 21 days (give or take
a few). If you find yourself skipping the intended event right before
it becomes a habit, you've missed the pattern it often takes and you
should plan on starting over as though it were day one again.
In the
grand scheme of things, 21 days is not that much of a sacrifice. It may
be a bit inconvenient, but the vast number of gains you'll receive
should be well worth it.
So the next
time you can't quite figure out why you couldn't stick with your
intended goal, ask yourself if you were able to stay with it long
enough to truly make it a habit.
If the
answer was no, now is as good a time as any to get on the ball and
develop that habit pattern that will lead to your eventual
achievement.

your success, Josh Hinds

TIME MANAGEMENT IS A
WASTE OF TIME!

"Helping Children
One Move At A Time"

That’s right, I said it and I’m sticking to my
guns… for the most part. While speaking to a group of small
business owners recently I asked what was the number one issue limiting
their potential for success. Universally, the answer was time.
Their complaints were: there just simply isn’t enough of
time, there aren’t enough hours in the day, and they just
can’t find the time to do everything that needs to be done.
“Hogwash!” was my response. There has to be enough
time in the day because no one has ever figured out how to get more
than 24 hrs from a single day; I think.
What about
you? Is there enough time in your day? I hope so because you get 24
hours a day, 168 hours a week and 8736 hours a year just like the rest
of us. So what do you mean you can’t find the time? Well
where is it. You've got it or at least you should have it. Because
I’m fairly certain that those of us that are still here each
day are issued one standard 24 hour block. That’s 1440
minutes or 86,400 seconds. That’s a whole lot of time to keep
up with, maybe you just misplaced yours. Well you need to find it. So,
where is it?
Why can’t we find the time to do what really needs to be
done? Aren’t our days scheduled down to the minute?
Don’t we have enough day-timers, calendar watches, phone
alarms, contact management software, meeting coordinators, and web
based scheduling to make the most of each day? Shouldn’t that
be enough? Well, what if it is more than enough? What if it’s
too much?
As a small business coach, I often marvel at just how much time my
clients actually spend simply trying to figure out how to better manage
their time. How many hours, days, weeks, and months of our time do we
spend learning and integrating new software, gadgets, and time
management techniques? What if we are actually investing more time than
we can ever get back from these new tips, tools, and toys? The phrase,
"Penny wise and Pound foolish" seems to apply here.
Don't get me wrong, these time management resources do have their place
but that place should be somewhere in line behind Faith, Focus,
Commitment, Discipline, and Accountability. So I guess time management
isn’t so much a waste of time as it is a poor substitute for
a Clarity of Purpose. Have you ever turned off your phones, watches,
PDAs, and laptop long enough to achieve a moment of clarity? If you
have you can attest that one moment of clarity is worth a whole month
of time management.
If we could just figure out what we really want to do on a macroscopic
scale and commit ourselves to it whole heartedly, micro-managing our
time wouldn't be nearly as big an issue. If we could just learn to
focus on our most important tasks first, our time would be free to just
take care of itself.
I wonder how much wasted time you could overcome if you were driven by
a single, unified purpose? I wonder which is more important, a
day-timer stuffed to capacity with meetings and phone calls scheduled
out to the minute or an unwavering commitment to reach an ultimate
destination? Maybe we should be less concerned about what we are going
to do with each minute of our lives and be more concerned with what we
are simply going to do with our life.
Here’s a thought. If you can find the time, maybe, you should
schedule a few minutes sometime this week so you can figure out what
you really want to do with your life or your business? Whatever it
is... you better hurry, because you may be running out of time.
