The Jack

background noise made it difficult to hear at times, Jack gave a great

Give Your Dreams
Substance
© By Josh Hinds
|
|
Setting
goals is wonderful; it confirms that we've taken those first awkward
steps towards attaining what we desire in our lives. The simple fact
that you've taken the time to plan out what you want to achieve puts
you in a distinct class. Amazingly very few people take the time to
keep a running list of goals. Sadly, even fewer people actually work
their goals. So take the time right now to give yourself a little pat
on the back! You deserve it.
You're part
of the elite group of people who have chosen to take an active role in
their own success. If the whole idea of goal setting (and goal
achieving) is a new one to you, don't worry; the important thing is
that you've decided to take the bull by the horns and get
started!
Here's a
technique to add substance to the goals you've set! Remember, the more
real the goal is in your mind, the easier your subconscious mind can
get around your desires and jump into action and start helping you
realize them!
This
technique assumes you've already decided on the things you'd like to
achieve. If you're not there yet then take the time to record your
goal, dreams and the action steps you believe are necessary to reach
them. Be sure to give yourself the room to adjust those items as
needed. It's a journey and one that you should derive enjoyment from.
Remember, you're taking the word chance out of the equation and are
taking an active role in the reaching the destinations you set for
yourself.
After
you've listed out your goals and dreams, the next step is to actually
visualize yourself reaching your intended goal. It is through
visualization that we can actually program ourselves to reach that
which we desire.
My friend,
it's one thing for you to say, "I want to get a new job", and quite
another to say, "In my dream job I will be in charge of marketing at a
growth oriented company. I will find employment in such and such an
industry. To reach this destination I will send out a certain amount of
resumes and do follow-ups with those companies until I secure the
employment I am looking for".
The idea is
that you're rehearsing these events in your mind. You're giving them
vast amounts of power because as the saying goes. That which the mind
can conceive, it can achieve. When using visualization with your goals
try and do it as vividly as you can. The more real they appear the
better.
Another
technique is to imagine yourself sitting in a movie theater. See your
goals and dreams playing out before you on a large screen. Find a
technique that works for you (the key word being what works for
you).
Hopefully
from the example above you see the difference that a little
visualization can play in making our goals more "concrete" in our
minds? To say I want to find my dream job is one thing, but to identify
it and imagine myself doing this job (and taking the necessary steps to
become employed) creates an added energy that will propel you towards
making it a reality!
Here's to
your success, Josh Hinds

Employers: PR in the
Hiring Process
By Michelle Lane
|
|
Communication, both internal
and external, is key to a company’s success, and
it’s not just your PR pro’s job to keep everyone
informed. No matter your title or position, when you are a hiring
manager/interviewer, you are the company’s PR rep, and job
seekers are an important external audience with whom you must
communicate. A PR faux pas could blow your company’s good
reputation! Here’s why.
The
interviewing process is a two-way street. Each candidate whom you
interview is interviewing you as well, often basing his/her career
decisions on the impression of your company which you create. During
this process, both party’s professionalism and manners are on
the line. You expect each interviewee to follow up within 2-3 days
after your meeting with a letter, thanking you for your time and your
consideration, don’t you? Of course! But did you know that,
as a business professional, you’re also expected to return
the same courtesy? You owe each interviewee a timely communication
regarding your hiring decision.
Top
candidates invest their valuable time and effort to properly prepare
for an interview. Then they follow up with you, but when you fail to
respond to them, you lose PR points. A letter of rejection is better
than no communication at all. A personal phone call, even a form
letter, postcard or a brief email is welcomed communication which
eliminates any mystery, eases rejection and spares your company bad
press. Employers, be advised: don’t let your
“slip” show!

Did you
watch the news on television today? Did you hear it on the radio? Did
you happen to listen to your favorite talk radio show today? Watch a
movie? A television show? Do you feel good because of it?
What effect do these things have on us in our daily lives? Do they
invoke a positive mental attitude? Probably not. The problem with the
media in most formats today is that it is comprised of every negative
image and idea that exists and is yet to exist.
Even a lot of the comedy shows have a negative message. Why is
this?
How do we balance these negative messages in our lives? How do we
counter the crap that is being fed to us? Do we immerse ourselves in
motivational books and tapes? If not , maybe we should.
The healthy function of our minds is dependent upon input. If the only
input that we have is negative, our output can tend to be negative as
well. Garbage in, garbage out. My father used to warn me that the type
of people that I surrounded my self with is the type of person I would
become. He was right to a great degree. It is also true that the type
of materials to which we expose our minds is the type of thinking that
we will practice in our daily lives. Perhaps you question that logic,
but let me go on.
When the mainstream media has
been confronted in the past about the content of their shows, they
claim that just because you watch a violent film, you won't become
violent. This may be true, but as you continuously immerse yourself in
violent content, you begin to become numb to the violence itself.
Such as that is, the more negative the constant input in your life, the
harder it becomes to be positive or think positive thoughts. As an
artist and a creative individual, I often need a bit of inspiration in
my daily life. To get this inspiration, I look at other artists work.
After a while I am influenced by what I have seen to create my own
work.
The same can be said for a positive attitude. If we reach a point in
our day when we feel like we can't go on with our work, sometimes all
we need is a bit of inspiration to get back on track. Often this
inspiration gives us that "a-ha" moment that we need to get back on the
rails.
Now I am not saying that you should have a constant diet of positive
attitude books and CD's. There are other things that can reinforce us
in our daily tasks. Aside from personal development materials, there is
also the development of our business or our skills. This type of
information can be found in
books, magazines, on cd, dvd, cassette tapes or the internet.
Often when we learn more about our work and how to do it better, we are
more successful at performing necessary tasks. This success in itself
is empowering and can lead to a more positive attitude.
As we go through our day we should try to be aware of the influence
that our surroundings are having on us. We should be careful to monitor
the types of input that we are getting and balance it with as much
positive material as possible. In doing this not only can we feel
better about ourselves and our world, but we will also be more
productive and feel happier at the same time.
