I'll never forget it.
I was living in this little granny flat
out the back of someone's house-
paying $100 / week, while I went to
university in the days, and worked on
my new online biz at night.
There I was, sitting at my desk - I'd
just bought into a high ticket business
opportunity - and paid 2k (little did I
know I'd be putting another 36k into
business in just a few months).
I was as new as they come... I'd just
paid $400 for this truly terrible
that looked like everyone else's.

And I knew that I'd have to spend some
money to get traffic... so I could get
some leads, and make my first sale.
I had no problem with doing that - but,
I did have a problem with pissing my
money against the wall.
I mean, if I was going to put in $50 in
a day, I wanted to know I'd actually get
If there's one thing you should know
about me, I absolutely HATE to lose
(in fact, I spent most of yesterday
getting angry about a so called 'friend'
who I lent 6K to a few years ago, who
is now refusing to pay me back. But
story for another email).
So... I'm sitting at my desk, about to
do my first ever Google Adwords PPC
I'm sending the traffic to a generic
looking page where I'm asking for name,
and phone number.
(by the way, I'd never do that these
days- asking for a phone number is a big
and will really kill your opt in rates-
plus it's a waste of time to get on the
someone who hasn't been more
So, on my first day, i spend the $50.
Slowly... I watch the clicks come in.
Every time someone clicks that ad...
I'm paying about 80 cents.
There goes 5 dollars...
... then 10.
... then 20.
STILL NO LEADS!
I start to get panicky...
"Where the hell are the leads? Why
aren't people putting in their
email address and phone number?? Don't
they wanna know how they
can make money online??"
I'm laughing as I type this now...
because I now see how ridiculous my
offer was, and why I wasn't getting any
But back then, when this was all new to
me, I didn't have a clue.
FINALLY... I get my first lead.
I was so excited to get that little
My upline had told me I should call
them back right away...
"Leads are like bananas" they would
say. "They go ripe quickly."
So, I pick up my phone.
My heart starts to speed up... I'm not
the most confident guy in the world, and
I have no idea what I'm going to say.
Plus, I'm just a 21 year old kid... so
this person probably isn't going to take
But I dial in those numbers.
As I hear the ring, I'm secretly hoping
they won't pick up.
3 rings... 4 rings... "hello??"
"Umm, hi, this is Matt Lloyd. You
recently requested some information
from my site about working from ho..."
"Who is thsi??" they interrupt.
"Ummm, it's Matt Lloyd."
The conversation goes on for about 2
minutes more. They shut me
down quickly, and the call is over.
That day, the remaining $50 is spent.
My total result: 1 lead, for fifty
I lousy lead... who did not even want
to hear what I had to say.
Basically, I'd paid $50 to be treated
like a telemarketer.
Again... this is highly amusing to me
But at the time, it scared me.
I didn't know it was going to be this
And the idea of doing it again each day
did not seem very appealing.
Fast forward 3 years and 2 months into
Things have changed a little.
On any given day, I average over 250
leads / day, like clockwork.
Half the time, I don't even know where
they're coming from... they
stream in from different directions.
And I have a lead abundance mentality.
There's over 26,000 people on my list
I can say anything I like in my

what I say or not (if they don't like
they were probably never going to buy
from me in the first place, so
there's no point paying the overheads
to have them on my list in the first
And... with those leads streaming in,
so do the sales.
My income is consistent nowadays.
If I process less than 2k a day in
transactions, that's a bad day.
So, I've figured out a few things when
it comes to lead generation.
(But I've also paid dearly for those
lessons. Probably over 100k in mistakes
by this point).
If you ask me what my secrets is... I
couldn't tell you. Because there is no
