Server attack misery
.....
The whole weekend including until
o-dark-thirty this morning
(Tuesday) was spent mitigating
attacks on our servers.
If I got 16 hours sleep
from Friday Night through Tuesday
morning at 5:00 AM I got a
million.
The attacks were severe
but the surprising thing came
this morning when we found the
lead attack not coming from
outside the US - but from Soft
Layer Servers in Dallas and
server logs will prove it.
We suspect one of two
reasons or possibly both .....
the first reason and most likely
is that they have a bunch of
compromised servers trying to
infect/compromise other servers -
similar to what was seen in the
summer of 2001 with hundreds
of thousands of servers attacking
others from a worm that took
months to eradicate or the second
and less likely is because we
have taken so many of their
clients recently beating the snot
out of them in the
hosting arena and taking even
more clients with our new
FacePressSite.com
product.
Probably needless to say
..... but our
Dedicated Server Guard has
had heavy updates due to these
attacks and ready to kick ass
taking no names later - we are
sure that our subscribers to
Dedicated Server Guard will
be very pleased.
It is over for those
attackers we have identified and
will be over to future attackers
- this is how we make our living
is with these servers, and
therefore we are relentlessly
motivated to protecting
them.
