A cocktail reception for the 1st annual Architecture & Design Film Festival in Chicago will be hosted by Wright and will feature a looped screening of Points on a Line, a film by Sarah Morris. On display for the first time in Chicago is a 1964 work , Wall by Tony Smith, and the light Sculpture Fractal Cloud by Arik Levy.

FESTIVAL SPOTLIGHTS

Geoffrey Baer is a multiple Emmy Award-winning producer and program host for WTTW Channel 11 (PBS) in Chicago. He is best known as the host and writer of WTTW's popular feature-length specials about Chicago architecture and history. He has been a docent for the Chicago Architecture Foundation since 1987 and is also s a board member of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Architecture and Design Society and an emeritus board member of Looking Glass Theatre Company.

Mr. Baer will be moderating the discussion Telling Stories on May 7, 5:30 – 6:30. Panelists include producer Ultan Guilfoyle and journalist and architecture critic Edward Lifson.

In honor of Mother's Day weekend, The mother of Visual Acoustics Director, Eric Bricker, will be in the audience to discuss the film.

Contemporary Days: The Designs of Lucienne and Robin Day

Robin and Lucienne Day transformed British design after World War II with striking furniture and textiles that signaled a new era of modernist sensibilities for everyday living. Robin's revolutionary furniture designs introduced materials such as plastic, steel and plywood to homes, offices and schools. His stacking polypropylene chair endures as an icon and now graces a Royal Mail postage stamp. Lucienne's abstract textile designs brought accessible elegance into the homes of postwar British consumers. The Days' fresh design approaches, including their contributions to the Royal Festival Hall in 1951, helped fuel the artistic and commercial awakening that led Britain out of the devastation of World War II.

Citizen Lambert: Joan of Architecture

A unique glimpse into the world of Phyllis Bronfman Lambert, renowned Canadian architect, urban activist, patron, and founder of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal, Citizen Lambert: Joan of Architecture plays on polarities biography versus autobiography, public image versus private persona, the view from outside versus the more intimate realm of self-reflection and in so doing, paints a vibrant portrait of a figure so often presented one-dimensionally in the press.
