 JUMP START TUTORIAL - PART ONE

In this tutorial...


  • Learn briefly how campaigns are used to manage your marketing projects.
  • We will create a new campaign to hold related follow-up messages and broadcasts.
  • This will automatically establish a new list to maintain and organize their associated subscribers.
  • We will then add a new follow-up message by creating one in both text and HTML formats using the editor.
  • Afterwards, we will preload an existing message as a second follow-up for the same Campaign.

 WHAT ARE CAMPAIGNS USED FOR?
 THE USER INTERFACE
  

Begin by logging in to your account in the upper right-hand corner of the GetResponse home page.




After login, you will arrive at the Control Panel screen, which will give you instant access to key features and drop-down menus for specific campaigns.



The Toolbar is always visible at the top of each screen and all functions are quickly visible and accessible.



The HELP menu, with access to the User's Guide, Tutorials, and Customer Service can be found to the right of the toolbar.



  
 CREATE A NEW CAMPAIGN

We will start by creating a new campaign to store and manage our follow-up messages.

  
  1. Click Create Campaign on the Control Panel



  1. Choose a Campaign Name using no spaces or special characters.

  2. Enter the Name and E-mail Address of who this campaign's messages should appear to be coming from.

  3. Enter a Title and briefDescription of this campaign (these will be shown on yourunsubscribe page).

  4. Click Create a new Campaign.

  5. The next screen will confirm that your new campaign is ready for use.



  
TIP:  If you are not sure about a particular option or step, simply click the button and a more detailed explanation will appear.

TIP:  This campaign can now capture subscribers to it's list simply by having them email it's address!


  
 CREATE A NEW FOLLOW-UP MESSAGE

Now that our campaign is in place, and a subscribers list has been automatically established to hold e-mails, we will immediately create a new follow-up message to be included with this campaign.


  1. Click Creating follow-up messages.
  2. On the message template screen click
    I will create a plain text message
    then click

The Message Editor will start, and allow


you to begin designing your e-mail.
  1. Enter a Subject line.
  2. For the Interval enter how many days after the subscriber's initial sign-up date will pass before this message is delivered.

    This is the first follow-up in this campaign, so we'll
    leave it at 0 for immediate delivery after sign-up.



 


We're now ready to enter the contents of our message.  GetResponse allows you to send messages in Plain Text as well as HTML format, and evenBOTH formats simultaneously for maximum compatibility.


 
  1. Enter your message's Plain Text version either by typing it, or copy and paste from another document.


  2. Click Wrap Long Lines below the editor window to have your paragraphs optimized for text mode.


 


  1. Once the text is in place, clickHTML Body and the editor will load.




  2. Click convert the existing Plain Text message to HTML to have your text appear.
TIP:  Make your subscribers feel as though each communication is coming directly from you by adding Personalization Fields to your messages.

Step One:  Click the Add personalization button to see the available list.  


Step Two:  Click theField you wish to display such as subscriber's First name.

  1. We can now add special formatting to our text such as fonts, styles, justification and color.  The editor helps add other HTML content such as links, tables, lists, pictures and more.
  1. Preview your message by clicking the Message Preview button.  You can see both the Plain Text and HTML versions at any time without the need to first save the changes!




The following message actions are located below the message editor area.


  1. Click Spell Check to check for typos.



  2. Click Spam Check andSpamAssassin will test and rate your message to see if it's contents are likely to be blocked as junk mail.



  3. Check Track click-throughs to see how often links contained within this message are clicked by your subscribers.



  4. Check Track sales to monitor transactions on your web site that take place after subscribers have arrived from this message's links.

  5. Finally, click at the lower-right
    to finish creating this follow-up.
TIP:  Add links to your web site in a few simple steps.

Step OneHighlight the text you would like to link.


Step Two:  Click the Add Link button in the message editor.



Step Three:  Enter the URL address for the web page and click OK.



The text is now linked to your web site.




TIP:  ClickSave As Draft to store a working copy of this message. You can re-open it later to make changes before publishing.


       


 
 ADDING MORE FOLLOW-UP MESSAGES TO A CAMPAIGN

To add more follow-up messages to this campaign.
  1. Go to Campaigns on the toolbar and choose Set-up Autoresponder.
  2. Select which Campaign you would like to add the follow-up message to.
  3. Then click Create new messages.





  
 PRELOADING EXISTING MESSAGES

Existing messages can be copied from other marketing campaigns, and even separate GetResponse accounts.  For example you may have aNew Products e-mail that applies to several of your marketing campaigns.
  1. Go to Campaigns on the toolbar and choose Preload.

The wizard makes copying messages a breeze.  The left side displays the source account/campaign, and the right side displays the destination.





  1. On the left side, begin by selecting which Campaign  contains the existing message.
  2. Choose whether it's Message Type is currently stored as follow-ups or broadcasts.
  3. Locate and check the message(s) to preload.




  1. On the right side, select the Campaign you are adding this message to.
  2. Then choose what Message Type to save as.
  3. Click the center copy > button to preload the message(s).
  4. Where this is a follow-up message we are preloading, we can enter the Day on which the message should arrive.
  5. Don't forget to click Save Settings to confirm the changes.
  6. Then click Next Step to complete the new autoresponder wizard.
 
 VIEWING YOUR CAMPAIGN AND MESSAGES
 

You can now view your campaigns and make adjustments either by:

  1. Clicking Campaigns on the main Toolbar.
  2. Clicking Manage Campaigns on the Control Panel.


All of your campaign titles will be visible, and by clicking + you can expand each title to view the individual follow-up and broadcast messages they contains.



   



Beside each message title you can click Edit to make changes, and Test to send the message to a specified e-mail address.


More detailed views are available by clicking either Manage Follow-up Messages orManage Broadcasts to the right of each title.


This will enhance the message views for either type with specific options like re-ordering follow-up messages, or sending a stored broadcast to subscribers.


Click Campaign Settings to adjust each campaigns unique details including Sender Identities and Personalization options such as Domains.
